Round 13 continues tonight when the Wests Tigers host the Penrith Panthers at Leichhardt Oval. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:55pm (AEST).

If there is ever a time to take on an unbeaten team, it is this weekend. With seven players out on Origin duty, the Panthers return to mere mortals. However, we have seen what an understrength Storm can do with the right systems in place. We might see the same with the Panthers this weekend.

Much was made of the new Tigers halves pairing of Luke Brooks and Moses Mbye a few weeks ago, but it seems to have paid off for Michael Maguire.

They have won two of the last three and comfortably accounted for the Dragons last weekend. Daine Laurie continues to impress at fullback and is proving one of the buys of the season.

Alex Seyfarth will start in the pack with Joe Ofahengaue on Origin duty for Queensland. Stefano Utoikamana gets a run from the bench.

The Bulldogs put up some resistance last Saturday, but the Panthers ran away with the game in the end. In truth, Penrith barely got out of first gear.

However, that formbook goes out the window with a multitude of changes.

Nathan Cleary, Jarome Luai, Brian To’o, Isaah Yeo, Liam Martin, Api Koroisau and Kurt Capewell are all out with Origin duty.

Dylan Edwards returns from injury at fullback, allowing Stephen Crichton to move back to the centres and Matt Burton to play in the 6 jumper.

Robert Jennings will play on the wing, Tyrone May in the halves and Mitch Kenny at hooker.

Scott Sorenson and Matt Eisenuth will start in the pack, with Jaeman Salmon, J’maine Hopgood, Lindsay Smith and Izack Tago on the bench.

Prediction
It would be very easy to pick the Tigers tonight against a weakened Penrith team at Leichhardt.

However, I think Ivan Cleary will have this team itching to prove that the Panthers systems are as strong as the Storm.

Burton, Edwards and Viliame Kikau all loom as game-breakers and I think the Panthers will continue their run with a tight win.

Panthers by 4.

Crichton got suspended for similar. No worry. 12 wins out of 13, and at least Panthers can say they won them all fairly. Didn’t need to lay down to win penalties.

Well, everyone was saying how wonderful Melbourne were . Even without their players. Even I had said that. They were missing players for the SOO , plus the fullback. Less than the Panthers were missing & won. Pretty good. Then again, the Titans were missing players as well. Unlike the Tigers! Given The Titans defence all year. Are they better than the Tigers, No way. Especially without Fifita. The Titans blew the game themselves. As Kelly doesn’t know how to pass to his winger. So we’re the Storm perfect, without less players missing, no! Did they fumble & miss tackles without their full squad, yes. Not every club, has an international spare hooker ( Smith ) , plus a starting first grader at any other club like Hynes. To come in & lead the way. Lucky them! They miss players every year & are used to doing so. That’s why everyone says they’re the best team. Obviously, with the best coach & set up. They’re the premiership favourites, premiers & rarely miss finals. With probably the second best backing, behind Brisbane.

Hey salty - heaps of people were saying this morning that Melbourne didn’t play well last night How come you weren’t running around reminding everyone incessantly how many players the Storm had out?

You’ve responded to me seven times, salty.  Don’t go soft now and say “it’s not all about you…” My comments aren’t over the top at all. Tigers played well, Panthers didn’t is all they really amount to - and here’s the kicker - YOU’VE AGREED WITH IT!!! You can’t handle reasonable criticism of your team Look up the meaning of the word insistence. I mistakenly said seven once and since you so kindly corrected me I’ve said eight EVERY time since Once isn’t insistent m0r0n But it’s irrelevant. The players that went out for the Panthers on Friday played poorly. Doesn’t matter if they had one out, seven out, eight out or 22 out… they were poor You’re the first person I’ve met who agrees with something and then argues seven times

If you could figure anything out at all? You would have understood that my criticism was not only of your ridiculously over the top comments concerning the two line ups that actually took the field . It was also of all the associated comments around yours. Note , the first sentence. ‘ You guys have to be joking ‘. Is that just you? The fact that it was attached to your comment , was just to make sure that you all noticed it. Not everything’s all about you Guru. By the way, genius. You also can’t count. Korisau, Cleary, Luai , Yeo, To’o , Martin, Capewell & Leota. That’s 8 .. Despite your insistence that their were 7 out.

By the way salty, you haven’t criticised my comments. You’ve done two things 1) agreed with my comments 2) made up your own comments, attributed them to me and criticised those

Because I keep getting notifications that you’ve replied My criticism is fine. It was completely objective. You’ve AGREED with it but you’re still arguing. You’re a m0r0n. You haven’t made a single comment about the game, just “they had eight out, they had eight out” I never made out the Tigers were the best team around. You’re clutching at straws “Well done Tigers, clearly the better side and really aimed up” was all I wrote. Just another one of your salty fan boy over reactions... If all you want to do is read a bunch of posts saying how good the Panthers played on Friday, go the the Panthers fan site...

No Guru... Just use a modicum of general perspective with your criticism. Not make out that the Tigers are the best team around. When they just defeated a very under strength side. With 8 players out. Don’t think you can do that though! By the way . If the topic is closed . As you commanded it up above. Why bother coming back to check & place 2 more reposts? Oh, no! Someone criticised my comments.. They can’t do that! I’m the Roar Guru... :crying:

What building up of the Tigers? I said they were the better team on the night and they clearly were. 26-6 You can criticise my comments all you like. I just don’t know why you are. I said Penrith were poor. You’ve agreed but are still arguing. I still have no idea what you’re going on about Penrith were poor. I’ve objectively laid out the reasons why and provided stats to back it up. If you disagree with me, tell me why and we can have a discussion If you agree they were poor you’re just being a sook and a pest You seem hung up on the guru tag. When they have a salty little fan boy sook badge, you’ll be first in line

As your criticism of Penrith & building up of the Tigers , with all your comments is ridiculous. Based on who they had available. It was one game with the line up that played. What, no one can criticise your comments Guru?

WTF are you on about them? All I said was that it was a poor performance from the Panthers and I expected them to play better You’ve argued with me three times and now in your first line you’re agreeing it was a poor performance. Why are you arguing with me? You’re coming across as lightweight butt hurt fan boy who can’t handle objective criticism of his team “you have nothing to base your expectations on” Except I do. I’ve watched the Panthers all year. I expected quality players like JFH , Crichton, Edwards, Kikau, Kenny, Burton, May, Momorovski, Staines, Leinu, Sorensen, Jennings, Eisenhuth to play better than they did. Even with eight out and rookies on the bench that’s still a quality lineup Even with eight out I think that lineup is still better than the Tigers and I expected Penrith to play better. Certainly expected better than a 20 point loss “A lot of the comments by you & others on here , just come from envy.” Wrong again. Most people, including me were cheering for the Panthers in last years GF. I think most people will be cheering for them this year against Storm or whoever. Panthers are one of my favourite teams to watch. JFH is my favourite player in the comp right now. To’o, Crichton and Kikau are among my favourite players to watch. Envy doesn’t even come close. Next you’ll be saying we’re all haters (apologies if you’re actually only 12 years old) “One loss, even two or three at this time in the season. Doesn’t mean that much” I didn’t say it did. I didn’t even remotely think this loss in any way adversely impacts their season “I heard plenty of excuses for South Sydney” Not from me. Did anyone argue that those Souths performances weren’t poor...? Suck it up mate. Penrith have been great for the last two years. Yeah, they had players out last night but even allowing for that they were poor. You agree, so don’t waste both our time arguing They made too many errors and handed over too much possession Their defence was poor They gave away too many penalties Their attack was too sideways and they went wide too early Their senior players didn’t stand up and lead the way Tough night at the office. End of story

I never said it wasn’t a poor performance. ( In fact, in another comment I made on here, I said it wasn’t good. ) So I think you’ll find that’s just in your imagination. I just replied to your crap . Talking the Tigers up & saying you expected more from the Panthers. My argument , is that with that many changes all at one time, you have nothing to base your expectations on? I heard plenty of excuses for South Sydney. When they were thrashed by Melbourne. Missing way less players. Then another when they were slaughtered by Penrith. Evidently it was then because they were missing one lock & the team had to change around a little to accommodate their best players being back in the team. I didn’t see Penrith have 50 put on them? A lot of the comments by you & others on here , just come from envy. As Penrith had had a lot of wins in a row this season & last season. One loss, even two or three at this time in the season. Doesn’t mean that much. If they make the top 4 or even top 8. They’ll have a chance , based on what they’ve been able to achieve over this & last season. So you go & get carried away , with all your putting down of the Panthers. Based on an under strength team losing one game.

I didn’t expect them to “put it to the Tigers” and I haven’t said that in any of my comments. I thought they’d still win, but wasn’t expecting it I expected them to play better than they did. I expected their experienced players like JFH, Kikau, Crichton, Edwards, Leilua, May to show some leadership and play MUCH better than they did I didn’t expect them to make 45 ineffective/missed tackles, and be poorly disciplined, dropping the ball regularly and giving away lots of penalties Did you have different expectations to any of that? All the guys I mentioned regular first graders like Staines, Momorovski, Kenny, Burton had sub par games. Do you think a single one of them played better than their average performance this season? It was a poor performance even allowing for eight players out. Instead of trying to insult me and invent things I’ve said, just name one aspect of the Panthers game last night that they executed well... it’s not just a few stats You haven’t even offered stats, in response to it being a poor performance you’ve said “was not, they had eight out” and that’s it. Not one comment about WHY it was a good performance Plenty of gun teams that lose players aim up during the Origin period. Panthers didn’t and it’s about the quality of performance not whether they won or lost...

All your comments are daft Barry. So you expect a team who has most of its pack & both halves to put it to another team at full strength? When they’re playing away from home, Based on what premise? The forwards , then the halves determine who’s going to win a game. The rest of the backs follow. So your saying that a few backs being available should change everything, is just crap! Just pointing to a few stats means frig all. Why would you expect more from any team with 8 changes from one week to the next? As it’s something you’ve heard others say? Based on what? It’s not something that team did last year & before last year, they weren’t even in the 8. Not every team has a spare Smith & Hynes ... Roar Guru ...Yeah Right!

Mate, I never used any excuses when we got beat by the Storm and Panthers, we were not good enough! But these blokes are also "flying excuses like rice at a wedding". All I'm saying is that a top side like the Panthers should have better replacements as these blokes didn't have a clue what they were doing even though they got allot of ball and assistance from the ref with penalties and 6 again and really the score should have been more than 26 to 6.

Your last paragraph is daft. Of course the expectations are higher for Penrith, even with players out They still had more than enough talent on the park to play much better than they did and getting beaten by 20 by the Tigers is a poor result regardless Which of the regular Panthers first graders played better than you would have expected? None of them did. It’s not overly critical. They were poor even allowing for eight out They made 12 errors, gave away 10 penalties and completed at 79%

Wow that took me back several years to when that was Penrith’s best. Was May channelling Milford with his constant jog trot across the line before handing it off quarterback style ? Disgraceful. Why take leaves out of team 15’s book? He was supposed to be continuing the system that Cleary had laid down. Plenty of other forgettable debutants. I’ve been naive to think the depth was ocean deep. It’s pretty clear that it’s the Luai, Cleary combo that conduct this orchestra. When this team is together, they make fine music. Without the two halves, they are a bunch of out of tune trombones. The difference they have made and make to a team is clearly enormous. You would be have to be worried now if you are Qld.
