Several years ago the NRL instigated a policy where any tackle which compromised the tackled player’s neck, throat or head was illegal and penalised. Over time, this policy has been watered down. Against the Raiders, Smith’s hand(s) and fist(s) applied pressure to the sides of the head to cause pain, discomfort and make the winger more submissive in the tackle. This is classic wrestling technique. Smith and others will always do what they think they can get away with. If Smith is allowed to lay on Solomona who is laying on an opponent, he will. Aussie Rules have it right – any contact above the shoulder is illegal. AND THE ARL NEVER WAIVERS FROM THIS RULE. If the NRL could get some intestinal fortitude and penalize any player who attacks or interferes with the neck, throat, head then this problem would dissipate. Over to you NRL.

No the Storm did not invent the Crusher tackle …the crusher tackle invented itself…….to gain more “post contact metres” you know that wonderful statistic that has now crept into the game …players are now turning their backs in tackles so thet can push to gain more metres before being put to ground…. which means their head & neck is now in a vulnerable position up against the chest of the defending players . However players were then coming down hard to put the player on the ground with a potential for breaking a neck …….

You the feeling Hooper is not that smart , quoting jujitsu like he even knows the difference between a kimura or a omaplata , when Finch called him out that his opinion wasnt the rules he looked blank, than tried to change his attack

Yep, The Storm beat Souths a fortnight ago. Damien Cook (NSW and Australian hooker) was asked about all the controversy last week and he said he noticed nothing different about the Storm and they didn't do anything that bothered him. But Hooper's sources... those mysterious, nameless sources.. they know.

Simply get rid of club wrestling coaches, and only allow tackles from the chest down. And we wouldn't be having this tired old debate.

Good article from Phil Rothfield today in support of the Storm. Hooper, Crawley and Paul Kent need to move on from attacking them.

Actually, Storm invented the grapple tackle - now banned. Storm then invented the Chicken Wing - now banned. Storm then invented the prowler tackle - now banned. Storm then invented the rolling pin - not sure if banned but the outcry was such that they dont dare do it anymore. Storm then invented the crusher tackle - now banned. So in fact what they have done and continued to do is introduce dirty grubby tactics, skirting the rules, which the NRL has then been forced to ban. The new crusher, where they go on the side of the neck is just another example. Possibly even more dangerous though. The NRL needs to get ahead of these dirty tactics. So Brett Finch is wrong when he says these are within the rules. They are outside the rules but not against the rules, until the NRL is forced to ban them for player safety.

Wake up Finchy. Are you suggesting the crusher tackle and chicken wing, both pertetrated by the Storm in the last two weeks, are legal?

Looking through your new emojois - where is the clap emoji. This was brilliant from Finch. More shame on you Fox, for continuing to give Hooper a platform. Quote a person, just one James, and I will consider calling you a journalist. When it is a Storm player not getting suspended, it is favouritism toward the Storm, when it is a player from a Sydney club avoiding suitable sanction, it is just put down to inconsistency.
