The Blues have a poor record away to the Bulls which they’ll be hoping to break in today’s Super Rugby meeting. Join The Roar for live scores from 2:15am (AEDT).
Still waiting on major signing Beauden Barrett to join the side after his off-season switch, the Blues have been solid performers so far this year, with one win and two losses so far – the defeats coming against competition favourites the Chiefs and Crusaders.
The Bulls, meanwhile, remain winless with two defeats and a bye to their name. They’ll be hoping home-ground advantage can turn that tide today.
Kick-off: 2:15am (AEDT)
Venue: Loftus Versfeld
TV: Fox Sports
Online: Kayo Sports, Foxtel
Odds: Bulls $1.82, Blues $2.02

True enough Ken, but Rassie has always been a bit different and willing to challenge the status quo, even as a player in my view. Rassie is without a doubt a bit of a visionary, while fully conversant with the rules and structures that have been at the centre of south African rugby.. Players like Kolisi I think will become more common as a result of the generally changing dynamic. The beast, while not captain or in the public view came before.

Ray Mordt is one to really stir some passion... and a glass!

“ some folk in this country that are just set in their ways.” Understood Ulrich, but then out of it rises the exquisite flexibility of Erasmus and the dignity of Kolisi. Don’t be fooled by the Aussie apparent ‘easy goingness’ . We have a solid core of recalcitrant thought forms. And we don’t yet have a Rassie or a Siya to look up to yet. The Rennievator offers hope.

Yes, Sinclair, the N.Tvl were to be feared in the past. I can go back to when they were captained by the great Thys Lourens. Also remember the days of Naas Botha, Louis Moolman. Saw the latter two play against Rhodesia in Salisbury in 1978....a fearsome team. Rhodesia had a chance that year in the Currie Cup...Ray Mordt, Ian Robertson, ex AB no 8 Alan Sutherland, David Smith........... they put up a good fight, but went down in the end.

I think in the case of the Bulls it is really just hard-headedness. There are some folk in this country that are just set in their ways.

Spot on re Northerns. It does take a while to change gears in terms of style. McKellar at Brumbies was quite open about adjusting their approach after Larkham had turned the side into a Jake White parody. They were just horrible to watch for about 2/3 of that season. At times it looked like the side had met for the first time in the car park before the game. It has really taken them the best part of 3 seasons to build into what I think he has in mind. In SA and NZ it can be done quicker, probably, because there is more depth of players and more rugby wisdom, but there is still an often painful transition.

They are stuck between “We know we should do this” and “We love the way we’ve been doing things” How else do you explain kicking for the corner every single time, but still employing Morne Steyn at 10? Second game in a row now they could have won if they just kicked their penalties. I believe they are trying to get supporters into the stadium by replicating what the Lions did, but they are too inept, again, specifically because Morne at 10, but even then they are not very dynamic. I think they will come right in due time. Yes, very thankful for those offering their time.

Nor for Qld game last night, in fairness. Makes you thankful for the people who give up some time to do it each weekend. Great to see the Orcs maybe starting to turn a corner. Had they not been in the NZ conference, their record would probably not seem as disappointing. Sad to see what has happened to N. Transvaal. Fond memories of their 1996 side, the 2009-2013 side (who got a bit stuffed by ref calls in a semi in Canberra from memory) and some moments since.
