Australia’s Wallaroos kick off their Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign against host nation New Zealand on the opening day of the tournament at Eden Park. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 5:15pm (AEST).

The Australians have never beaten the Kiwis in 22 attempts and will face a tough game against the tournament’s second favourites behind England.

The Black Ferns will be buoyed by a record crowd for a women’s rugby international – around 40,000 fans are expected – as they launch their bid for a sixth World Cup title.

Australia have never won the competition, with their best result a third placing behind champions the Black Ferns and beaten finalist England in 2010.

The teams have played twice at World Cups; a 36-3 result in 2002 and a 32-5 Black Ferns win in 2010. The teams have met three times in 2022 so far, with matches already in Tauranga, Christchurch and Adelaide.

The Black Ferns have won 32 of 34 home Tests, including all eight at Eden Park.

They have played 34 test which the Black fern have won 32 of them. After that many games played the Aussies aren't new to the games they just aren't good enough. Give credit where credits due 3 trys up an then for the Ferns to come back to win by the score they ended the game with an the Aussies not gaining a point after half time, just admitt they aren't good enough. Go back to secound division.

Oh you poor little fella! Sadly it’s you that’s seemingly having this over reaction on sportsmanship by assuming & accusing me now of things I never said! Ffs how delusional & pathetic your assumptions are! Now trot along back to your toys!

Touched a nerve did I? Wow, mate, calm down. I never said they didn't deserve to be there. Those are your words. All I was pointing out is that you are denigrating a team that put its all out there on the field in a game they had almost no chance of winning and then treating it like some sort of achievement for the winning side. That is all. If you want to be a poor sportsman about it, that's fine. But don't resort to pathetic personal attacks when you haven't actually got a valid point to make. That's just sad.

Oh no, what's the world coming to? Rita Ora's halftime show wasn't live on TV. Apparently, a broadcast rights issue. But never mind Roarers, it's on You Tube for those who want to see it.

Whose defensive?? Can’t you handle the truth, or obviously you think the Wallaroos shouldn’t be there, with that loser outlook!! Ffs!

You want to get all defensive about a fully professional side being down by 17-0 for 20 minutes of an international to a side that they are at home to in front of an overwhelming home crowd, a team they've never lost to and a team that is entirely amateur. Seems legit.

Yeh but thats 15 on 13 for 10 mins. Difficult to defend and drains the legs. Not inconsequential, doesn't matter when the cards occur.

Two simultaneous yellow cards, 14 points shipped during this period after 17 all at 51 mins. Embarassing? Hardly. Some good stuff shown by the Wallaroos.

Answer in news today: The Rugby World Cup boss says every ticket made available for Saturday’s record-breaking opening day was sold but nearly 6000 people didn’t show up at Eden Park. The crowd figure provided after the finale of the triple header between the Black Ferns and Australia was 34,235, setting a new world record attendance for a women’s rugby event and for a women’s sport event in New Zealand.

Yes I'm still self unclear on the numbers, Friday news of sellout and no tickets available. Were those behind the posts seats never available? EP can hold 60k with additional temp seating, 47k as standard, but then I saw capacity listed as maximum tickets of 40k. I know NZ has acknowledged literacy issues, numeracy not so good either! And more importantly, who is Rita Ora? What did I miss? - my dodgy online match coverage didn't show any of her performance.

The other point is, that the scores were level when the yellows came about,& also the Wallaroos scored all their points in approx. the first 20mins then failed to score any more points.

Yep ok, but there were more vacant seats behind the goal posts than there was in the main stands. So noticeable.

Point is that the score didn't blowout until after the double yellows. And NZ coming back from a 3-try deficit is hardly unexpected.

Best explanation for this, is the they only sell 'Match Day Tickets' covering all three matches. Can only sell a seat once - guessing some France, SA, England, Fiji supporters were only at Eden Park for their team's game then left.

Lack of discipline is again the difference between Australia and their opposition. It's the one consistent factor that keeps undermining all the hard work and momentum that Australian teams put out there on the field. It doesn't matter that the girls are amateurs versing professionals, gifting such easy possession away and destroying your own momentum constantly will never win you games. Having said that, what is clear is that this Wallaroos outfit is full of heart and although they may lack the critical high endurance that is required for 80 minutes at international level, they have plenty of talent and skill to pressure the top teams, even if they wont yet be much chance of a win. It's probably fair to say that BFs were a little overawed by the occasion and that allowed the golden girls to get an early lead and even though it was always likely that they'd come back very strongly and likely win the game even from that position, the Roos shouldn't have fallen away that far. A score line of more like 10-15 points to New Zealand is probably more reflective of the actual game but results are results and the history books never record how a result was achieved, just that it was achieved. Still, otherwise the hardest game for the Wallaroos is now over and it is time for them to regroup and get down to the next two challenges, being Scotland and Wales. Wins will be hard to come by but if they can bring out that opening 30 for a full 80, they will at least make a showing in the semis, which would be a good result. And, plenty of room for growth. Four more years, girls. Four more years.

TBH the SA ref was the best ref of all the three games played. The French ref in the English v Fijiana game made many mistakes & constantly didn’t watch the off side play by the English.

TBH they said it was a sell out as far as the crowd went, but all stands had plenty of vacant seating!
