Can you just imagine the commotion if this was a Kiwi ref and a Kiwi team scored? Look at the amount of chatter around ‘that’ lineout call for an example. Clearly throw wasn’t straight when you see how far the jumper has to stretch to his left. You even see Kirifi asking the ref the exact question straight after. Then ref runs an obstruction line any team would be proud off. Of course, this didn’t impact the result in that the Canes won - which will be the rebuttal as to why hardly anyone is complaining. But it’s interesting to see the different reactions ref mistakes illicit from the roar crowd. I’ve said it for a long time, if we actually want accuracy and consistency then that’s what we should be actually asking for - accuracy and consistency. The selective criticism and cynical commentary clearly shows the real driver for most is ‘just don’t hurt my team’. Otherwise we would seem the same outrage on a play like this as we do on that lineout call.

The Ref should stand where he could see the throw-in. The Tahs receiver had to jump away from the lineout to catch it it was so crooked.

Positional play from Nic was not good. Why do the ref coaches teach them to stand there? Get away from the line of touch and stay on the in-goal side of play. The ball is coming to you, you are not in the defensive line, you can get to in goal quickly and you can see the straightness of throw by the angle of the bodies and arms of the jumpers. Positional play is so important near in goal. Made more important by the absence of law allowing a remedy for a ref getting in the road of a defensive team. The defending team had to cop ref obstruction. It wouldn't if the ref was in good position.

Dont worry about the screen. How good is the pass from the Hooker! Definitely backwards to his jumper!
