Owen Farrell shoulder charge worth 'three penalties': Cheika

By The Roar / Editor

Fair to say the Wallabies boss was less than impressed by the decision.

When you get smashed in just about every aspect of the game it is not wise to talk about a single refereeing decision.. It is symptomatic of what is wrong with this organisation that they look for excuses rather than take ownership of the continuation of poor form. Australian Rugby is now paying the price for years of focusing entirely on the Wallabies and not the structure that feeds it. In other systems where there is a robust competition, positions are earned not guaranteed. In funding terms the whole structure is like an upside down pyramid.. not the most stable of constructs. The Super 15 is not providing any benefit, schools and juniors get nothing and the clubs are left to swing in the wind. The NPC comp which should provide a greater player pool, runs for a few weeks, is poorly run and lacks any broad support by ignoring the tribal nature of the sport. Rather than have these contrived second tier franchises it would have been smarter and easier to use existing clubs with existing following to compete in an elite National club competition... entry being granted to the top performing sides in Sydney and Brisbane supplemented by a side ACT, Melbourne and Perth. Maybe it wasn't complicated enough.

Meets the threshold. Yellow and Penalty Try. Farrell should be cited.

It should have been a PT and therefore an automatic yellow, regardless of whether it met the criteria as straight foul play.

If they ruled his SA o e was ok, then this one has to stand to. It’s. Or not the reason they lost, but might have meant a different attitude or belief in the second half. Although don’t think would enough to change the result. For me it is as much a shoulder charge as the first one. As the arm is up, it’s never in the contact and is not really wrapping but that’s the reason they used last time. Interesting that we heard Hooper asking the ref about it, and the ref said the ball carrier dropped the shoulder too, so it was fine. As far as aim aware that is not covered in rules at all. Every ball carrier drops the shoulder into a tackle, it is still the tacklers responsibility to insure the contact made is legal. Anyway, like a couple have mentioned. Hard to argue the point without sounding like whining, but I had no skin in this game. Just annoyed at the standard of reffing on farrels charges, 2 times now, in almost as many weeks.

Has Farrell got a license to do these tackles with immunity?, one would think he has as for whatever reason, that's the second time in two almost successive games and he's got off with impunity! Rules for Farrell rules for everyone else it seems! Love watching Farrell, he's nowhere near the best first five' around, but his antics when preparing to kick at goal are priceless and worth the price of going to the game to see it: ~ Someone should make a ''Gif'' of his preparation it'd be a beaut! Aussies sadly only had themselves to blame really for the unexpected loss as this was one game they could have ''shoved it up the Poms'' as they are a pretty ordinary side really and only just above the Skippys' on the rankings! ~ Poms didn't play well but the Skippy's let them in unfortunately!

Rubbish. The contact looked pretty tame to me. If anyone came off second best, it was Farrell. Cheika's just looking for excuses. There's deeper reasons for the Wallabies' malaise. Concentrate mental energies on those problems.

It was a poor decision but Cheika went overboard in his criticism. He was embarassing. Yes, it would have put us in front at the break but we were poor in the second half.

The referee should have yellow carded the entire England squad and let Australia have a fair game for 10 mins. Your lock bounced off a ten and ended up in a heap on the ground.

Penalty try and sin bin at the least or a send off! About time refs treated such tackles as is! Second time round as the first one in the SA vs Eng was the same! It’s a blight on rugby. Yes AUS played terrible rugby and would not have won but such things should be deliberated upon and addressed properly on field rather than off field in reviews such as in the first instance. Classic how to do the shoulder charge is what it was
