The controversial finish to the last Test played by the British & Irish Lions

By The Roar / Editor

The British & Irish Lions last played a full fledged Test back in 2017 where the series finish in a draw after a 15-15 result in the third and final Test. It led to All Blacks Coach Steve Hansen calling for more simplified rules.

Id have backed him in and clearly the french refs backed him to kick it too. So they changed the ruling so he wasnt allowed to... Should have just played advantage and let ALB score but that didnt suit them either did it!!!

No such thing as an easy kick for Beaudie. Missed easy kicks were another reason for the All Blacks failing to clinch the series.

As far as I know the TMO cant rule in that instance. Also, considering the Ref has come out and said he destroyed his room straight afterwards because he knew he got it wrong, or words to that effect. The ruling should have been deliberate offside as he caught it. The ref was conned into 'he caught it by reflex and didn't mean to, so it was accidental offside. You can see where this line of 'it was just reflex' reasoning can go. It was rubbish.

Referee trashed the locker room — he says — because he was overwhelmed. I’m not one to bash refs. But this was a bad one. He folded under the pressure.

The referee actually cost the lions the series due to a couple of howlers earlier in the match

And they created enough pressure for the Lions to give away a penalty too and the ref changed his mind after awarding the penalty then admited he destroyed his room due to anger at Effing up that decison which would have given an easy kick for the series win.

The All Blacks created enough try-scoring chances but couldn't find the finishing touches. That's why they didn't clinch the series on the day.

What's done is done.....time to move on except, the latest news released says Marius Jonkers has just been chosen, to replace the kiwi TMO for the first BIL v Bok test. Apparently, covid travel restrictions has affected, the kiwi's travel or something to that effect. Poor old Gats - he's ropable atm.

So was the decision over turn from penalty to scrum correct? I don’t have a problem if they got it correct, however Owens actually catches the ball in offside position and then drops it once realizing what he has done. Firstly, I don’t get how a correct decision on the field goes up to TMO and then get it wrong after watching replays. Secondly, is that something the ref is allowed to check with the TMO? Maybe the protocol had changed after 2015RWC. Joubert said he couldn’t… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12R5jGbU8NY

It also led to the ref saying he stuffed up and cost NZ the series and that he destroyed the Refs room because he was so angry at himself.
