The Central Coast Mariners and Perth Glory fill the festive time slot in a New Year’s Eve clash at Central Coast Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).

After the promise of an early lead against the Jets in Round 9, the Mariners once again let points slip and succumbed 2-1.

Back on the horse once again, they will continue to search for their first full complement of points for the season, against the Glory.

Tommy Oar makes his return for the Mariners yet Ross McCormack, Ben Kennedy and Tom Hiariej remain on the pine.

Mike Mulvey still looks to have a committed and determined squad and a win must surely be just around the corner.

In saying that, Perth will not be an easy opponent even with some disruption to the visitor’s squad.

Chris Ikonomidis is on international duty with the Socceroos and Shane Lowry misses through suspension.

Alternatively, Matthew Spiranovic and Diego Castro return to strengthen the troops.

Neil Kilkenny and Andy Keogh will once again be vital for Perth and Jason Davidson will work the left threateningly.

After something of a stumble against Sydney FC in Round 9, Tony Popovic will demand an instant reaction from his team and certainly has the in-form personnel to make that happen.

In something of a symbolic, end of year game, the result may point towards the New Year fortunes of both clubs.

Prediction
I am picking the Mariners in this one, on what can sometimes prove a wild and unpredictable evening of football.

It would be a wonderful and turning point-like victory for the men in yellow yet the Glory will also be switched on; knowing they need a win to reclaim top spot on the ladder.

The Perth Glory have defeated the Central Coast Mariners to the New Year's tune of 4-1 at Gosford's Central Coast Stadium. Frankly, it was a thrashing, with the visitors starting the match better, withstanding a first half challenge by the home side and finishing off the match with ease. It took just three minutes for Perth to open the scoring through Andy Keogh and the silence in the home stands said a lot about the state of mind on the Central Coast right now. Soon after, Tomislav Mrcela ran into an open goal and scored before having the goal disallowed for offside. In the process, he managed to break the goal. Despite my suggestion to use the sauce bottles as posts, the officials thought it better to wait for a replacement and the match was paused for around 40 minutes whilst the repairs were done. Mike Mulvey had his team fired up from the restart and they started well before the Glory took control once again. Fabio Ferreira scored a double before the official break and the visitors took a three goal lead into the sheds. Perth controlled the second half well despite Jordan Murray pouncing on a Matt Simon header and scoring for the home side with just 13 minutes remaining. That goal gave the home side something of a hope yet Perth found the net again when Keogh scored his second late in the game. In the end it was a comfortable win for the Glory and one that saw them reclaim top spot. For the Mariners it ended 2018 in the worst fashion possible. They have two points from a possible 30 and the club is in crisis. Final Score Central Coast Mariners 1 Perth Glory 4
