The Brisbane Roar can jump as high as second with a victory over the red-hot Melbourne City when the two teams lock horns at AAMI Park. Follow all the action with live scores on The Roar from 4:05pm (AEST).
Starting the day in seventh, the Roar could leap a whopping five spots on the ladder with an upset win here. Given they also hold an extra game on all of those teams, that would make them very tough to jump for a home final.
Warren Moon’s men are in top form, having not tasted defeat in their last seven matches. They have Riku Danzaki to thank for the extra two points in their most recent game, against Western United, his 94th-minute goal snatching a critical win.
City, though, are without question the A-League’s most fearsome outfit. They too are on a six-match unbeaten run, showing their steel with a 3-1 win on the road over Perth Glory last week despite conceding the opening goal. Scoring has been the key to their success – City’s 45 goals for the season is far and away the competition’s best – so the clash with the Roar’s defence, which has conceded a stingy, A-League low 18 goals for the season, looms as critical.

The maturity of soccer players is around 29 to 30. The average retirement age is 35. The average of 25 is young.

coolncold -Ask any person who has been connected to a football club and he will tell you, depending on each individual, that a player reaches his peak at 26-30. As an example Dennis Law was playing in Huddersfield's first team at 15 and Best played his first game with United when he was 17. Now that's what I call 'young". Cheers jb.

They are young, 24, 27, 25, 26, 26. Are they not young. Take a loom on the ages of the Melbourne City's players who started yesterday. These City players have an average age of around 29.

coolncold - Ok ,went back to AP's early year 2009 and found the following players playing, Malcolm (31,) Van Dijk (29),Moore (36), Tiatto (38),Millar (35),.This was the team AP inherited and among those mentioned, AP is credited with doing a clean out ,bringing him up 2010 and the only "young" players to emerge were Zullo, Kruse and Nichols ,none of who were "regulars. OK ? Cheers jb

Coolncold - In 2011 when AP 's team was at the top of the tree the following players (and relative ages) were regarded as first choice players in the team. Theo (30), Franjic (24),Smith (29), Murdocca (27), Steffanuto (31),Paartlu (25), McKay (28), Henrique (26, )Berisha (26) and Broich (30). Where are all the "youngsters" you talk of. Time does strange things to the memory. Cheers jb.

Postecoglou used a young squad to play high-tempo and stamina. However, yesterday, they play low-tempo.

A look at the match stats tell the story City's 32 shots to Roar's 9' This was a one way race despite the score and the much vaunted Roar defence had some miraculous escapes. Did the Roar football staff learn anything from this game? One could be cruel and ask when was the last time two opposition wing-backs scored against this defence. Aldred was missed not for the Trewin effort but for his experienced guidance to others. It is elsewhere that one has to look to find Roar's weak spots. In recent weeks we have seen a plethora of changes made in starting line-ups and the use of substitutions and yet the goals still don't come, or apparently even in "goal attempts". One of the recognised centre -backs is steadily climbing the goal scorer lists and the relative "new" boy is keeping pace, but there the buck stops. It is painfully obvious that young hopefuls like those tried out in midfield are not yet up to the standard required for a top team and this is measured by the amount of "turnovers" made in that area. The two Japanese imports are of the same build and are hopeless when it comes to challenging for high ball being sent into the opponents penalty area. In the first 25 minutes of this game one got the impression that both these man were in fact playing as midfielders and defenders, leaving Champness to plough a lone furrow up front. The gentleman who quoted Einstein in his recent comment re. Richard Garcia could well be giving Roar observers a very worthwhile comparison, in layman's language he cited Einstein as saying if you use the same methods (and people) to try and solve a problem then you will surely fail The Roar were taught a lesson yesterday, despite the score, if you want to play with the "big boys" you have to continually strengthen your playing staff, not by giving the same people a run every now and then, but getting quality into the side. Cheers jb.

One of the two commentators says yes to the hand ball leading up to City’s 2nd goal while the other says no.
