Two top teams in strong form go head-to-head as Melbourne City and the Central Coast Mariners go at it at AAMI Park. Stay up to date with their A-League clash with live scores on The Roar from 7:05pm (AEDT).
After a wobbly start to the season, Melbourne City are in full flight as they continue to charge up the ladder. They scored arguably the most impressive victory in their current four-game winning run, knocking off a high-flying Macarthur outfit 3-0.
They’ll be up against the ladder-leading Mariners tonight, however. Despite their 2-2 draw with Perth last time out, Central Coast are in good form themselves – having won three of four prior to last weekend. A win tonight would but Alen Stajcic’s side six points clear atop the A-League ladder.
Kick-off time: 7:05pm (AEDT)
Venue: AAMI Park, Melbourne
TV: Fox Sports
Live stream: Kayo Sports, Foxtel Now, Foxtel Go, MyFootball Live app
Betting: City $1.64, Mariners $4.50, draw $4.10 (odds via PlayUp)

The WSW are on a roll too and have enough firepower to be competitive and they also have a big bench of players to come on at the 60th. Whilst I always thought MC would win this year, and I think that is fair prediction, I never thought I would see the Glory run over quite the way it eventuated on Friday night when the Wanderers were in full flow. They could have had six if the VAR was not there. MC to win this year and only Adelaide and WSW have a chance to stop them.

Sure its arguable. If it happens in the first half & is given, maybe a different game...but in truth that's clutching at straws - Mariners needed to be better by half to make a real game of it.

Kuol got a touch, ball deviates

That collision was two players going for the ball. Neither one had control of the space or the ball.

Another brilliant game by City. Let's got more people to the games! The smell of the grass in the rain is what football is all about.

where are all those posters that said city wont win the league this year? lol, in my pre season predication i said they should cakewalk this league with that forward line. Much like Adelaide they started sluggish but are starting to fire now with games in hand as well. The 6 is almost set already, just a couple more teams to drop out (central coast and macarthur)

Huddo agree about the pen but it wouldn't have saved us as you say. MC were much better right across the park, and we showed none of the intensity or creativity that has swung other matches. If Im Staj Im handing out some zingers today, but on the other hand he is responsible for some of it too, with selection / sub decisions that on reflection don't stand up to scrutiny. Hopefully it can be a line in the sand & not the start of the decline that the court jesters want so badly.

First I'll premise this by saying this is the first time the mariners looked outplayed all year. MC deserved the win. But how does a collision that happens in the box not be judged a pen, when if that same collision happens 3 feet further from the goal, out side the box, gets adjudicated a pen every day of the week. It was a poor decision by beath twice, and although I won't say it cost us the game, it did take us out of it. To add weather is not included in the officiating process, nor intent. The call was just a bad call.(and adds to the small team's getting robbed again narrative)

I'm sorry Metcalfe was not going for the ball, that's a pen anywhere else on the field.

CCM “pretenders” brought back to earth. Start of the slide towards their normal position on the ladder.

Dominant performance by City with slick movement and passing on and off the ball and PK building a ruthlessness into the side - managing the game by continuing to apply pressure to the last minute. Too much depth as well coming from the bench.

Ka-Ching! The sound of City fans buying tickets to the grand final. Will they play the Wanderers, Macarthur or Central Coast again?

Not long to go now. Time for CCM to revert to “Plan B” although Matt Simon will have to dive twice in the penalty area to achieve a draw. False leaders of the comp.

Both players going for the ball, wet ground, some slipping, would have been harsh in my unbiased opinion
