The Wellington Phoenix face the travelling Perth Glory in some Round 6 A-League action. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5pm (AEDT).
The home side will be looking for its second win of the season at Westpac Stadium while Perth will attempt to strengthen their position on the top of the A-League ladder with a fifth victory in six matches.
Still unbeaten, the Glory are rolling along nicely and Neil Kilkenny pulled the strings last week, crafting numerous chances as Perth held on to defeat the Mariners by three goals to two.
Wellington were beaten comfortably 3-1 by Adelaide after starting promisingly and there have been some recent cracks beginning to open in Mark Rudan’s team.
Having Sarpreet Singh back for this game is important as the Phoenix looked very light on for attacking options without him last week.
David Williams and Nathan Burns haven’t provided the support up front for Roy Krishna that the club had hoped for and Rudan will need to find a way to produce and convert more chances, as well as plug a leaky defence that was exposed by the Reds.
It is hard to see a weakness in the Perth squad right now, with Jason Davidson and Chris Ikonomidis in sparkling form.
Andy Keogh will be the major beneficiary of their current play. With four goals for the season at this early stage, it would be fair to suggest that he will be eyeing of another this afternoon across the ditch.
It is a long trip for Perth and not one they will take lightly. Tony Popovic is building a steel into the squad that has been absent in recent times. Games such as this will be a true test of that steel.
Prediction
Perth should win this game comfortably. Once again, Wellington will show early fight yet the class of the Perth front third will prove difficult for them to contain for the entire 90 minutes.

That boarded on dodgy that decision. I cannot understand how he came to that conclusion. That isn't, has never been and will never be a straight red card. Well played Phoenix!

The Wellington Phoenix have held on for a gallant 1-1 draw in the face of immense pressure from the Perth Glory. It was a match laced with controversy and tension, with the home side taking a first half lead from the boot of Roy Krishna after the Wellington press had the visitors under all sorts of pressure early on. Perth did start a little better in the second half yet Wellington still looked in control until the sending off of substitute Ryan Lowry in the 75th minute. It was a ridiculous decision for a player who had just entered the game and had no priors for the match. VAR has let us all down again, especially considering the fact that the Phoenix appeared to have been denied a fair penalty in the first half which if awarded, would have seen them double the lead. As it was, Perth bombarded the Wellington defence for the final 15 minutes and Diego Castro found the net in the 82nd minute to set up a grandstand finish. However, even the Glory's best efforts couldn't find the winner and the brave Phoenix ten held on to earn a meritorious point. The fans were furious, Mark Rudan will be furious and the home side was by far the better team on the day. Final Score Wellington Phoenix 1 Perth Glory 1

Thank God the Phoenix got a point, at least. I guess the referee saw the boot on the shin and forgot to think through whether Lowry really did do anything dangerous, which of course he didn't. He didn't go in with high studs, he didn't push himself forward in the follow through. That should be rescinded and the FFA need to firmly remind the referees about prudent use of the VAR system. Again.

Wow, i will take a point after the way we started. I'll admit that the Nix deserve 3 points. Time for a week of VAR controversy, again.
