Bernard Tomic tells umpire he expects to test positive to COVID

By The Roar / Editor

Bernard Tomic lost his Australian Open qualifier to Russian Roman Safiullin in straight sets but not before a bizarre exchange with the umpire. Tomic appeared distressed about the testing regime of players and made a bet that he would test positive in the coming days.

While they are checking for covid they might want to see if he has any ticker.

After watching this, it looks like he's trying to hit on the official. Maybe it's his weird way of asking her/him out to dinner?

I don’t think he is saying he has symptoms, just that he week catch Covid with the lax testing.

That's a weird incident. He's saying that there isn't proper testing (RAT only) at the tournament and that he thinks he has Covid because he has the symptoms. I wonder what the protocols are in that case - when the player thinks they are positive but haven't tested positive.
