Del Piero announcement set for Wednesday

By Cappuccino / Roar Guru

Sydney FC are rumoured to have finally signed Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero following further negotiations on Tuesday.

Various media outlets are reporting that Del Piero and his brother and agent Stefano have already put pen to paper on a $2 million six-month deal.

It is understood that an announcement officially confirming Del Piero’s signature will be made tomorrow at 11am Turin time (7pm AEST).

Negotiations have been ongoing between Sydney FC and the Italian striker since Sky Blues CEO Tony Pignata and player agent Lou Sticca arrived in Turin on Monday, following Sydney’s premature announcement that Del Piero had agreed terms with the club on Friday.

The club quickly withdrew claims of an official agreement, stating only that they would continue negotiations by flying to Italy, but Sydney now seem set to secure Del Piero despite interest from the MLS, FC Sion, Braga, Tottenham and Celtic.

If the reports prove correct, Del Piero is likely to fly to Sydney within the next two weeks to join with the Sydney squad, preparing for their first A-League fixture in a month’s time.

Del Piero, a World Cup winner and former Juventus captain, would become the biggest signing in A-League history, with suggestions that Sydney’s membership base could double if the Italian legend signs.

A recently released football brand analysis has only one Australian club in the top 100 - Melbourne Victory. As of today - there will be two!

considering my brother in law lives at surrey hills, that's pretty close to Sydney's home ground, i may well do that. 'plus finals'.........i like how that was added in seemingly as a given...;-)

Halleluyah Peter! OMG! It's really happening.

Isn't it wonderful that we are talking about a player like Del Piero coming to Sydney and we are going to fulfil some of his ambitions in life. Only a global language like football can make this possible. Irrespective of what the media chooses to ignore or to report and no matter how many people go along to the games, I will not miss out on seeing him play and enjoying the game that I love being raised to another level in my home town.

They are chipping in because he will be doing promos for Hyundai, the FFA and Foxtel and will become the face of the A-League. Del himself wanted to promote the game here. He's also a rugby fan and is looking forward to seeing the wallabies and all blacks in action during the off season.

Seriously? You mean that Gill McLachlan probably didn't get an offer from Liverpool either! But I read it here on 'The Roar' that the Reds had made an offer to our blue-blooded boy that he couldn't refuse ... Say it ain't so, Joe.

Punter Even I'm blown away by how big this already is. It's just been reported that "Sky Italia will apparently broadcast all Sydney FC games LIVE into Italy now." These are the indirect benefits that come from having a global superstar playing our global game in Australia.

BOOM!!! It's is over ... Ale Del Piero - one of the living legends of football - will be playing in our A-League for the next 2 years. Kasey .. this is your proof https://twitter.com/Val61/status/243308419350679552/photo/1 (photo via Val Migliaccio Val Migliaccio) For the HAL haters & HAL doubters ... as so many have mentioned on Twitter, Sydney FC beat offers made by clubs from the biggest, most watched & most lucrative football league in the World - the EPL. Sydney FC beat offers made by clubs who are playing in the most prestigious club football competition in the world - the UEFA Champions League. Yeah .. you can take your "the A-League is crap" and stick it where ever you want. The whole world now knows ... WE ARE FOOTBALL!
