The Football Hipster's World Cup quiz

By Norfolk / Roar Rookie

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is less than 100 days away. Ange Postecoglou is stroking his egregious goatee and thumbing away at Youtube clips of Croatian-Yet-Somehow-Australian central defenders.

Lucas Neil is flicking yabbies and reloading his internet banking account.

In three months, England will hobble together 11 footballers.

They’re posting wanted ads and they’ve sent a call out for any interested youngsters. Roy Hodgson is looking under the couch for Paul Scholes.

Louis van Gaal is about to email his resume to Tottenham but he wants to confirm that he won the World Cup first.

Some have lesser expectations than others, only Brazil and Spain think they can win it.

The USMNT just really want to beat England, Australia just really want to be England, France just really want to beat England and the Germans are superfluous because everyone already knows the Bundesliga is a much more logical approach to football than the Premier League.

If you think you’ve understand these references, than why not have a crack at the Football Hipsters Quiz?

Just post your answers below and don’t google the questions. The winner receives a possible trojan horse preventing the use of the words ‘We Sing for the Wanderers’.

ANSWERS Q1: Robert Pirès Q2: Answer as pointed out is iffy, with seven Australians with Croatian descent (Viduka, Skoko, Bresciano, Kalac, Covic, Popovic and Culina) and three Croatians (Didulica, Simunic and Anthony Šerić) according to SBS, 6 were eligible to play for either side. (you know using FIFA laws) Anyone who said 6+ gets a point! Q3: Armenia can't play Azerbaijan and Spain can't play Gibraltar. Q4:Chris Birchall of Port Vale & Trinidad/Tobago "Birchall is known as 'Me Mum'... this is because Birchall's response to a question about his right to play for Trinidad and Tobago was simply "me mum". Q5:A company owned by Neymar's dad. I think Santos and the Tax man got fifty cents. Q6:Footvolley Q7:Miralem Pjanić nonchalant no.10 with a beard from a reformed soviet state. Q8:Marco Senna Q9: 80 players have Senior National Caps in the A League, they include Adrian Leijer, Matt Smith, Michael Thwaite and not Eddy Bosnar. I don't even know how that makes sense, any how, Wellington provided around 52 of the selections. Q10: After the death Christian Benítez, the coach decided they needed Valencia as captain becuase he was close with Christian Benítez and the team needed a new lease of life. Q11: Nabil Bentaleb, Tottenham was the one I was referring too. Q12:Iran Q13: 7. Q14: The Guardian Q15:Switzerland Q16:Coupe de France Q17: I'm going with anyone not in NATO or lives near the North Koreans. Q18:mid 80's -early 90's Q19: 2-1 Germany Final Question: Gary White.

Franko, don't forget Kalac, who many believe was playing for both sides on the night.

"Question 2: In the 2006 FIFA World Cup between Australia and Croatia, how many players could play for either country?" It should be worded "In the 2006 World Cup between Australia and Croatia, how many players were once eligible to represent both countries?" But surely you understood his question originally? I did.

Question 2: in the 2006 FIFA World Cup between Australia and Croatia, how many players could play for either country? - surely the answer is none - as all players had previously represented Australia or Croatia and thus were ineligible to play for another country ?

Um. We're making a distinction between international football and the world cup now? Most of them refer to WC players. Beausejour, Pjanic, Antonio, Benitez, Falcao, Bentaleb are all key players for the nations or were going to be. This is a really bizarre comment.

It's in relation to the World Cup. That's why 10 is about the Ecuadorian Captain, a country that's done very well recently and participating at this years WC. Number 3 is a trending world football issue, any question that references Brazil, well hey they're hosting it. Number 13, the team in Australia's group stage who play a different brand of football, number 16 is about Colombia best player and they are a dark horse as well as nearly hosted the WC, 17 is a question about the 32 teams in the WC Finals, Number 18 is about a team fancied to win the WC with a golden generation of players, and Guam are one the fastest improving teams in the world. So in short, I don't get your point.

Whilst I find some of the questions in this read pretty interesting and brilliant for a general football quiz, you did state it was a world cup quiz and it isnt really that at all.. refer to 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 and 20. For a world cup quiz you get 8 out of 20, not great but better luck next time..

Some more 1. Very tricky, am guessing someone that plays abroad and has a mixed background, the Germans had a bunch of strikers that were not born in Germany, some Polaks in there but I doubt Polaks feel that European. The Catalans and Basque may not be patriotic to Spain, so maybe.... Xabi Alonso 9. 25 14. USA today 17. Must be a trick question as I assume many don't. 18. The Scifo era, late 80's early 90's. Ecuador? Doubt the Greeks could afford it?

Some ripping questions there! Question 8 got me thinking: Who won the 2008 Euro and could’ve played for Brazil? Answer: The great Marcos Senna - nearly helped Riquelme reach a Champions League final for Villarreal as well
