With wounds still fresh following a disastrous 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany, Brazil must find a way to finish their poor World Cup campaign with a win against the Netherlands.

Brazil has failed to set the tournament alight so far and the absence of Thiago Silva and Neymar in the semi-final was enough for Germany to put the hosts to the sword.

Silva is expected to make his return tonight against Holland but the final make-up of Brazil’s defence is far from certain.

David Luiz, Dante, Marcelo and Fernandinho are coming off shocking performances against Germany and it remains to be seen how many of the preceding players will start against the Netherlands.

Upfront, Fred has been practically useless for Brazil as a no.9 and we may very well see Willian take his place in the starting side. Hulk and Oscar will be the players charged with igniting Brazil’s attack.

The Netherlands meanwhile are coming off a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat to Argentina but their campaign has been very successful overall.

The Dutch were not expected to progress too far into the tournament given that there was a large turnover of players following a poor 2012 Euro campaign.

Holland though are building a good team filled with many promising young players who will hopefully start against Brazil

Players such as Memphis Depay lead the new brigade of Dutch stars that will take charge of the side once Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben and Robin Van Persie all move on.

Overall, today’s contest should be an entertaining affair. Brazil however are still feeling the effects of their shocking defeat to Germany and this may allow the Dutch to perhaps rub further salt into the wounds of the host nation.

Netherlands to win 2-1

I'm not sure if is official or unofficial but the ruling is if a professional foul is committed by the last man before a certain goal then it is a red card like Solskjaer got, so in the Robben case I believe the ref wasn't strong enough to hand out a red to Silva and therefore gave the penalty (do 2 wrongs make a right?).

Does it make you feel good to big yourself up by seeking to label me as a casual viewer who who prefers the collision codes. You are wrong. As to Robben going down in his usual exaggerated and theatrical way at the sightest touch what do you call it? Don't patronize me by saying i don't understand the implications of "loss of balance". I suspect your defense of Robben has more to do with your support of the dutch Mr Orange. The man DIVES, end of!

Agree. And this was the Netherlands that had just carved üp Spain 5:1 and was looking to do a similar job on Aussies just to cement their place in the next round. As I said below, well done Ange and the boys.

Very good observation Fussball, and perhaps we should have scored another one or two and actually won the game.

The problem isn’t that “soccer players dive a lot”. The problem is that casual football watchers don’t understand playing football or the rules of football. From what they are used to watching rugby or Aussie Rules they think the contact is minimal and don’t understand the level of contact required to unbalance a football player in full flight, particularly when he is about to shoot at goal or make a cross. It happened to me several times yesterday in our game, unfortunately none of them were in the penalty area.

I know there was a controversial penalty for Robben today considering that it was a yellow card (When the law say it's a send off) and that it was a penalty (when it was outside the box) Now I know that the law say that is a mistake however, don't you guys think that is an appropriate penalty for disallowing a clear goal scoring opportunity. Shouldn't the penalty for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity is giving the opposition a clear goal scoring opportunity even if it's outside the box. To me it was an incorrect decision but a fairer outcome due to unfairness in the laws Here is an example. Manchester United 1-1 Newscastle and it's injury time, Newcastle are breakway for a 1 on 1 with the keeper and Solskjaer fouled in outside the box denying a clear goal scoring opportunity and so Newcastle gets a free kick where Manchester United can have 10 men in the box and Solskjaer was send off but since it was in injury time, it doesn't really matter. The penalty of the foul does not match the crime. The result was that MU kept the draw and remain in the title race Wouldn't it be fairer to just give it a penalty even if it's outside the box. Hell if you are going to give penalty for fouls outside the box, you might as well reduce the red card to a yellow card and avoid a sent off that often disrupt the flow of the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkAz5CT6apM

So, the Netherlands played 7 matches at WC2014 and only conceded 4 goals all tournament. Only 1 country managed to score more than 1 against the Dutch. Not mighty Spain - the current World Champions & current European Champions. Not mighty Brasil - 5 times World Champion & host nation in 2014. Just weak little Australia. Allegedly a rubbish football nation. In 90', Australia scored half of all the goals the Netherlands conceded in the tournament ... and we were missing half of our best outfield starting line-up!

According to this news article ( http://metro.co.uk/2014/07/12/north-korea-media-tells-country-that-its-team-has-reached-world-cup-final-4796033/ ) the people of North Korea have been told (brainwashed) by their own government that North Korea had reached the World Cup Final in Brazil :)

Conceding 10 goals while scoring 1 in past 2 matches sums it up. Disappointing end for the hosts...

Brazil have officially hit the lowest point of their proud history. Back to back heavy defeats to Germany and the Netherlands. Maicon now blasts his shot well over the bar and that sums up Brazil's attack. Its pretty novice stuff to be honest. Brazil 0 Netherlands 3

ust by the way has anyone good a good reason *cough* excuse why the Ned men are wearing Blue not Orange? Or how Germany’s strip looks worryingly like St Georges or St Helens or Wigan RLFC’s with that red Vee
