ICC Cricket World Cup: Broadcast guide

By Benjamin Conkey / Editor

Summer has already been a cricket lover’s dream and it’s about to kick up a gear with the start of the Cricket World Cup.

The tournament will see 49 games played in 43 days across Australia and New Zealand.

If you have Foxtel you can be a walking cricket zombie, with a dedicated channel broadcasting the tournament 24/7.

»Cricket World Cup Broadcast

Those without pay television still have access to all 49 games on radio with ABC Grandstand covering the matches on its digital service and Smart Phone app.

Cricket Australia will also provide free radio commentary for Australian matches, the semis and final on its website and live app.

Channel Nine will only show Australia’s six pool matches, one quarter final, the two semis and final, making a total of 10 matches.

Unfortunately, those who have Cricket Australia’s app won’t be able to stream live action from the tournament, even if you have paid and subscribed to the 365-day live pass. Cricket Australia’s website states that the pass doesn’t include the World Cup.

If you can’t access any of the above services there’s always live scorecards and blogs. There’s a plethora of options but the best sites are ESPNcricinfo, Cricket.com.au, The ICC World Cup official website and, of course, The Roar.

The Roar will also be providing match highlights of all Australia’s games, the finals, and key moments throughout the tournament.

How can you co-host a tournament and only show games that Australia are involved in. Only 20 percent of the nation have foxtel and it seems that the rest of us can go and get stuffed. Well done cricket Australia or whoever it is that is responsible for this complete debacle.

Not wrong Andrew, no cricket on the telly unless you pay through the nose for it. Murdoch is greedy ! Channel 9 is a disgrace for not showing the games ! Turning kids away from their favourite games ! Shove the cricket !

I hope Australian Cricket never win the right to host a world cup cricket again. Them and channel 9 have killed it. Absolutely loved the T20 coverage. One day cricket. Not for me anymore

What about the travelling fans that want to watch the games on FTA? Did the powers that be not think that a lot of non-residents following the CWC around Australia would like to watch games that are not in their current location? Absolute disgrace.

Very disappointed with no full coverage on free - to-air. We cannot get Foxtel, so why should we any many others miss out because we don't have toe bucks to pay for it. As John said, VERY UN-AUSTRALIAN. Hang your heads in shame.

If you have a computer, ps3/xbox 360 or newer; Foxtel provides an app with monthly no lock-in streaming and each package is only $25. No box, no installation fee and no commitments. Just purchased the sports one on my ps4, probably keep it through till footy season finishes.

Well done! How do you kill a sport in Australia - give it to Foxtel. Soccer, basketball and now cricket. What a joke - well done! Very un-Australian, but then again typical - money talks I know, however facts are facts - Foxtel continues to kill off sports in Australia. Well done! Ah well, one less sport I need to worry about.

Just Googled to find out if the Pakistan v india game has been washed out, Silly me expected it to be on Nine (or Affiliates). Likely to be a good game not like yesterday. Obviously the usual boofheads (Slater, Healy, Brayshaw and Warne) wouldn't have anything to ramble on about when their mates aren't playing so they won't be broadcasting it. Please Cricket Australia give the rights to a broadcaster that respects the game

I'm a bit annoyed that all World Cup cricket games are not on channel 9. I cannot afford Foxtel so because of this I miss out on 3/4 of the games played. What is the point. Bit unfair.

Bit hard to get excited about a tournament where only Australian games are available. BBL will rate much better. Scheduling games in Sydney, Brisbane and anywhere in NZ this time of year is risky. Suspect DUckworth/Lewis will get good use.

What happened to channel 9 have cricket rights in Australia,Kerry Packer would turn in his grave. I have Foxtel and it sucks Murdoch your cricket coverage is rubbish in fact your foxtel is rubbish. $80 a month for repeats and the same shows for a month, what a rip off.

Some people can't afford pay TV. Simple as that Luckily I can but I still think its a waste of money - other than the sport most of Foxtel is rubbish. I would rather pay per view for sport

FTA continues to be a good source of TV for sports that intend to have a player base 15 years from now.

Can't believe people are still reliant on FTA for their sport fix....
