Robbie Farah in doubt for Origin 2 with a shoulder injury

By The Roar / Editor

NSW Blues and Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah is in doubt for State of Origin Game 2 with a shoulder injury suffered in Origin 1 last night.

Farah was dumped on his head and shoulder by Queensland centre Justin Hodges, and has sustained a Grade 3 AC joint injury as a result.

The Sydney Morning Herald‘s Michael Carayannis has reported that this places Farah in serious doubt for Origin 2, after he captained the Blues in the absence of the injured Paul Gallen.

Farah will be sidelined for two to four weeks with the injury.

Wests Tigers doctor Peter Lorentzos said on Thursday that scans revealed a grade three AC joint injury.

Farah is not expected to play again before Blues coach Laurie Daley names his team on June 2 for Origin game two at the MCG on June 17.

“We’re expecting him to miss 2-4 weeks but we’re very hopeful that he’ll be right for Origin II,” said Lorentzos.

Hooker Farah suffered the injury when he was lifted and slammed to the ground by Queensland centre Justin Hodges during the first half of the match at ANZ Stadium.

There was no penalty called and the 31-year-old took a few moments to recover before bravely finishing out the match.

“He was terrific but that’s what we’ve come to expect from anyone who wears a NSW shirt,” Daley said of Farah’s effort after the game.

Hodges was later cleared by the match review committee.

Full statement from the Wests Tigers:

Wests Tigers can provide the following injury update on Captain Robbie Farah, who suffered a shoulder injury in Wednesday night’s State of Origin Game I.

Farah has sustained a Grade 3 AC joint injury in his left shoulder, and is expected to miss Wests Tigers’ Round 13 clash against the Gold Coast Titans at Leichhardt Oval.

However, the Club is hopeful Farah will be available for selection for Game II of the 2015 State of Origin series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, June 17, with the injury only expected to sideline the 31-year-old hooker for two to four weeks.

In good news, forward Aaron Woods has reported injury free from Wednesday’s game, and will line up for the Club against the Titans next Friday night.

I don't recall it to be honest. Hodges is certainly polarizing. But I absolutely love him. I reckon he is the best centre in the comp. There is no one I would rather have in my team in that position. And for anyone who has ever read any of my nonsense will attest, I do quite enjoy a bit of sass.

If it's anything goes in one on one tackles, what did you think of Jnr Paulo on Ballin in Round one this year. For the record I though the Hodges tackle was a solid bone rattler, but didn't change the fact that Hodges is the biggest sook in the NRL. The way he carries on, when ever someone gives back half as good as Hodges dishes up he has a cry.

I think you might have your training bra on too tight.

Hodges is a grub and people like you that want to be tough with stupid comments like 'It was a great Origin tackle' and 'Spear tackle my arse' are the ones that encourage plays like that. I wonder if Hodges was tackled like that and he would have gotten injured like Farah, what you and the Qld supporters would have said? I bet you that you all would have made the biggest fuss and been outraged about it. And that Hodges didn't even get put on report, is disgraceful and typical of the inconsistencies that the refereeing is at. And Farah being 'sensitive', my ass, that was a 'malice and spiteful tackle, that Hodges gets away with allot of the time. Hodges's tackle (if you have a look at it in slow motion and closely) was on the verge of being a very serious dangerous tackle, that is if Farah would have landed on his neck it would have been lethal.

I was at Suncorp Broncos v Dragons 3 years ago when Hodges ran 30m and threw himself into a tackle on Brett Morris whilst Morris was down injured with a leg cramp. one of the lowest NRL acts I've seen. No NRL 'letter writer' in cooee then ... but then Morris' surname isn't Farah I guess.

I watched the replay, I watched the slow motion replay.. I watched frame by frame; Robbie landed L shoulder first, impacting slightly inverted from a lateral (not vertical) adduction. Head impact was secondary to shoulder impact; definitely a high coup injury risk. If you want to get technical, the shoulder striking the ground one (1) frame pre body could be defined as past horizontal, but that is getting ridiculous. We are talking about Robbie here... old school tuff player

"Half spear tackle"............so you mean a classic hard origin tackle lmao. At least Farrah isn't as soft as some NSW fans, he got up and played on.

Love Hodges. He's a grub, but my god I am glad he plays for Queensland. "I'll buy you a beer!".

So what do you reckon Carlos? 4-6 weeks? Plus 3 weeks for each "trip" by JT. That should give the Blues half a chance... Quarter maybe.

That's what you end up with when you pick four forwards on the bench. They had nobody to replace him with, without throwing the whole game plan - such as it was- out the window. Farah should never have come back on after half time. The amount of strapping they put on him, it's a wonder he could move his arm at all. For the record I think he was lifted above horizontal and it was very close to him landing on his head. I hate it. Every time I see a tackle like that I shudder. I'll get those pink ribbons ready now. ;-)

Well if he misses origin 2 at least Gallen will be back and peats will slot in at hooker. Although, i dont think peats' form warrants selection. As for the tackle itself? To say there was no malice in it, is completely false. However, it is certainly not illegal and in fact a good tackle.

Is everyone missing the part where he didn't actually land on his head? Or the part where it wasn't a lifting tackle?

I haven't seen a replay but I feel like he landed on his shoulder. Also it isn't why that particular rule was introduced. It was a one on one tackle. As far as I'm concerned 1 on 1 should be pretty much anything goes.
