With State Of Origin taking up plenty of column inches, let’s cast a glance into the future at who might be donning the Queensland State Of Origin guernsey in 2020.
1. Anthony Milford
Played his best at fullback when he was with the Raiders, although he is playing some really good football at five-eighth for the Broncos.
2. Corey Thompson
The exciting young Bulldogs winger is a bit small but has great finishing skills.
3. Valentine Holmes
Already showing his class for the sharks and envisage a long representative career in front of him.
4. Dane Gagai
On the cusp of breaking into the Queensland side, hr will get his chance once Justin Hodges or Greg Inglis goes.
5. John Folau
Israel Folau’s younger brother has shown great potential for the Eels. Queensland hopes he will turn out to be just as good as his older brother.
6. Michael Morgan
Already in the Queensland side, Morgan has the skills, speed and strength to wear the coveted no. 6 jumper, worn by some of Queensland’s greats.
7. Ben Hunt
The form halfback in the competition is waiting in the wings for when Cooper Cronk retires.
8. Josh McGuire
Reminds me of Shane Webke. Can see him leading the front row for Queensland for a long time.
9. James Segeyaro
The lightning quick hooker is playing great football for the Panthers. Once Cameron Smith hangs up the boots he should be first in line as replacement.
10. Dylan Napa
Already in the eyes of the Queensland selectors, it shouldn’t be long before he breaks into the side.
11. Kenny Bromwich
Already played for Queensland residents, is sure to be in the eyes of the selectors.
12. Korbin Sims
Has declared his allegiance to Queensland despite his brother wanting to play for NSW – whom he has the potential to be just as good as.
13. Corey Oates
The Broncos winger has the size to play in the forwards.
Honorable mentions
Jayden Nikorima has freakish skills, and is putting them to use coming of the bench for Broncos. Can see him doing the same thing for Queensland in 2020.
Joe Ofahengoue has just signed for the next two years with the Broncos, which should keep him in the selectors’ eyes.
Chris Grevsmuhl the North Queensland product is playing some good football for the Rabbitohs and is sure to be in the spotlight in years to come.
Well that’s my team. What do you make of it Roarers, who do you see wearing Maroon in 2020?

Im still not sure about Papalli...I would like him to have a really good couple of years playing consistently before I would have him in especially when there will be plenty of oter options by 2020.

Yes Grevsmuhl is good .The halves were the toughest part a lot depends on DCE and how he handles it as a stop gap measure. He will be 31 in 2020...by that time the other halves would have plenty of NRL experience and would be more than worthy of filling a halves spot in SOO

I was tossing up between Segeyaro and McCullogh,i went for Segeyaro mainly because he had had his name mentioned around the traps ,he might make it into the side when Cameron Smith retires but only for a couple of years, but as a long term prospect it would be Andrew McCullogh

I could see Ben Hunt being captain material...I think he will become Broncos captain in the near future

Way too difficult to predict. Chambers will only be 32. Holmes will be a fullback I think, rather than a centre. I think Folau is a centre. Ben Hunt and Anthony Milford will be the halves on the back of three straight premierships. Joey O will be there. Kodi Nikorima has been playing off the bench for the Broncos. Jayden is playing half back for the under 20s. Moses Mbye will be sniffing around. The Barry, you can throw Ash Taylor in the mix for halves as well. Will be sniffing around by then for sure. There will be a lot of sniffing. I can't see Segeyaro ever getting anything but an off the bench role for QLD to be honest. He doesn't have the control. Jake Friend and Andrew McCullough are only 25. Friend is already Co-Captain at the roosters and Andrew will likely Captain the Broncos one day. Holmes will likely be fullback. Chambers and Gagai the centres. Folau and possibly someone like Maranta the wingers. Hunt and Milf the halves. Up front will be Napa and McGuire. Back row of Guerra, Joey O and Oates. The bench Jayden Nikorima, Papalli, Jarrod Wallace and Grevsmuhhl

I've got a lot of time for Grevsmuhl. It will be a tough battle for halves spots - DCE, Hunt, Mbye, Milford, Elgey, Nikorima

Yeah mate your making a lot of sense. Chambers may be leadership material. He would have got a good education at the storm.

Bromwich is a kiwi. Jayden is QLD/Aus while Kodi is NZ(another sims situation). Joe O is QLD/Aus.

Nice article, but personally I believe it is still a bit premature to suggest who will be playing for Queensland in 2020. It is still five years away and there will probably be players playing who we have never heard of yet!

I think Bromwich, nikorima and ofahengoue are all kiwis, but still a pretty good team

How about Jake Friend in the N0.9 jumper and Captain?. Knocking on the door now. Cant see a decent captain on the list.

Indeed, in fact Kenny was the 18th man for the Kiwis in the 2014 ANZAC test. So he's definitely NZ.

I think your being sarcastic because man for man I can't think of any nsw players who are better.

I would agree with most of it, apart from the back row. I think there'll be better players there by 2020.

Kenneath Bromwich is eligible for New Zealand. Queensland Residents is basically a fancy term for ISC All Stars and has nothing to do with the Maroons.

If that's the QLD team of the future, NSW will dominate for a long time, maybe even 9 years!

Thank god cherry has been left out. I think the titans edgley is a chance to be in the halves but will have an uphill battle getting selected ahead of the other 2. I love segeyaro but can't see him being picked over friend yet.
