2015 State of Origin Game 2 was a ratings winner for Channel Nine, with 2.615 million people tuning in to watch the NSW Blues beat Queensland 26-18.
According to overnight OzTAM estimates, the clash beat Game 1’s ratings which saw 2.432m metro viewers tune in. The crowd at the MCG was also a State of Origin record, with 91,513 attending. It beat the previous largest crowd of 88,336, which was set at Stadium Australia in July 1999.
The preliminary audience figure for Nine was 2,481,000 viewers, plus 134,000 Perth viewers who watched the game via Nine’s digital channel Gem, for a five-city total.
2014’s Game 2 was watched by 2.682m (including Perth), with the total 2015 figures slightly down for last night’s corresponding clash.
Origin’s pre-match (1.488m metro viewers) and post-match (1.055m metro viewers) shows helped the Nine Network further cement a dominant night.
Game 3’s deciding match will likely continue the strong performance of Origin, with the match on July 8, at Suncorp Stadium in Queensland.

Ratings number of TVs tuned into the station rather than actual number of people watching. Or at least that's how I've always viewed it.

Then again people who comment on the roar are allowed to vote too, and yet the county's still no better. Go Figure?

Tyrone, I guess the reason sport doesn't rate higher is because they don't factor in people watching in pubs and clubs. As far as I'm aware regional TV ratings use similar methods to metro...special metering systems sent out to random households and the sample size then determines the overall figures for each viewing region.

I know I've said this before but I still can't work out why sports in Australia don't rate higher. I thought grand finals, etc would be up to the 7-8 million. How do they work out regional ratings? If 2.6 mill watched between Syd, Mel and Bris, that's about 10 million people. That means that bout 1.3 million watched from regional NSW and QLD from a pop of ? -- Comment from The Roar's iPhone app.

Best news is that the game was quality and those that watched would be glad they did and keen on the decider

Big ratings and big crowds. This is where the NRL earns its keep. Anyway, apart from that: Code in crisis!

3.9 million National audience according Glenn Dyer on Crikey including an impressive 134,000 in Perth on 9's secondary channel.

Well, if nothing else, these numbers show why the game always kicks off so late... More lead-in, more ads, more revenue for Nine. It's annoying, but it's not going to change.

I'm genuinely concerned by the number of people who apparently watch Today Tonight. These people are allowed to vote... Just let that sink in for a minute...

More concerning is that 605k watched Family Feud. Jeepers that's a worry!

You can thank Paul Gallen for the big increase from game 1. Really good game last night, deserved a big audience.
