Kenny-Dowall set to return versus Knights

By James MacSmith / Roar Guru

Shaun Kenny-Dowall is set to make his return to the NRL for the first time since allegations of domestic violence were levelled against him.

Kenny-Dowall has missed Sydney Roosters’ last three matches, but could return against Newcastle at Hunter Stadium on Sunday.

The Kiwi international hasn’t played since being arrested and charged on July 18 in regard to a number of alleged incidents involving former girlfriend Jessica Peris.

The 27-year-old was admitted to hospital two weeks ago due to concerns over his mental health. He returned to Roosters training last Monday and trained with the team for the following day.

Kenny-Dowall’s good friend and teammate Jared Waerea-Hargreaves said he was looking forward to him returning.

“The boys have his back and it has been massive the amount of support he has had,” Waerea-Hargreaves said.

“He is doing well and better than what he was. We are looking forward to having him around the place again. He is a brother to all the boys.”

Kenny-Dowall’s case is due to be heard in court again on Thursday, when he is expected to plead not guilty to all the charges laid against him.

Difference is Fifita's situation is a football code incident, and the bulk of the witness statements have now been presented. The board of the Sharks and the NRL are the final arbiters on the matter. If I were the Roosters and it's a hard choice,I would not be playing SKD ATM regardless of the court's final decision as to guilt or innocence.I just think he may not be mentally strong enough at this point of time, plus the Avaa example left a bitter taste. There are too many PC people waiting to rip in to the NRL for playing a player .Thje code gets belted enough as is from teh press scavengers. If anyone is found guilty, they should be out of the game full stop.

Got to admit I find it strange that SKD is basically welcomed back by the nrl and fafita is looking at a season ending ban! Don't forget avaa from Souths last year - pleaded guilty and still got to play the season and a gf! Where was Kent and the other media then????

I once had a hairline fracture on my hairline. My hair hasn't been the same since.

Don't actually have a problem with this. It kind of reflects what happens in the real world. If Joe Bloggs the Plumbers assistant (not his real name) had a barney with the missus, he'd still be allowed back at work. Being back at work could be the best thing for his mental health. He may ask or be asked to take leave to sort out his issues. Bigger companies might even provide access to counselling. On the other hand if Joe Bloggs abused the customers, other company workers, and generally gave his company a bad name, he'd probably be shown the door. I know the severity of the alleged incidents differs substantially. I'm not saying the punishment fits or will fit the crime in either case. But it does reflect the situation for most of us.

Im not sure you are entirely familiar with the term "big noting"..steveng, otherwise you would probably look closer to home. Your poor attempts at providing unqualified mental health counsel to other subscribers is testament to this.I think the "rookie" tag is quite appropriate in your case in general terms though. Leave the sensitive skills of ethical paraphrasing to people who know what they are doing, and stick to following the green and red hordes where you belong...by the way Satts only had a hairline fracture of the jaw in that GF, SKD 's was smashed in 2013.

Agree, except Fifita hasn't been charged with anything.....the Fifitas have been ACCUSED of VERBALLY assaulting a grown man, SKD has been CHARGED with PHYSICALLY assaulting a female and according to the NRL that's ok. What a joke.

With all due respect to you "miccy3", but you might have never been affected by a "personal relationship(s)" if you make a comment like that and you might have never ever loved a woman. SKD seems to me that he was greatly affected emotionally (as he must of loved Ms Peris) and that is why he got professional help. Personal relationships do affect men and women differently, and there is nothing so amazing about SKD recovery (if he has fully recovered) and playing football is another means to his recovery. But SKD is no different to many of us. Its great to see him back and that he is recovering from all his problems that this relationship has had on him. The best thing for SKD is to play football and be with his mates at the Roosters as Waerea-Hargreaves said. And big note "littleredrooster" how many times have the Roosters beaten Souths this year? = ZERO, stop big noting yourself and the Roosters as you must have an "inferiority complex" by all the rubbish that you write. lol

I'm not a Sharkies fan but I have to agree with this. There needs to be some kind of blanket policy for all clubs to follow. Either players that have charges pending are allowed to play or they are not (regardless of the plea). Otherwise it is just too inconsistent. Take the decision out of the clubs hands.

SKD'll be back to help us SMASH Brisbane, Manly and Souths to take another Minor Premiership. When we dismantle the Cows in the GF, it will give everyone even more reason to hate us. Make NO mistake..the Chooks are THE most despised team in the comp, pretty much always have been since 1975. We fans really dont give a rats ar$e about what you think of us. People should wake up to the fact though, that the rabbits are the real silvertails and the dogs are the darlings of Toddy the boss...EVERY team aims up when they play the chooks, we are used to it and have been for a while now.

What a sulk ! How can you say he wasn't needed ? Just because they won ? I cant see how anyone is entitled to say what should be done , in reality this could take 12 months to go through court . Would you like to be sent home from work for a year whilst waiting for court proceedings ? And would you like to be an employer paying someone to sit at home for a year ? These kind of matters are in a lot of cases " he said - she said" and in the end nothing comes of it. If hes proven to have assaulted someone he'll get whats coming and that my friend is for the courts to decide , not you and I.
