2016 AFL fixture revealed

By The Roar / Editor

The fixture for the 2016 AFL season has been revealed.

The 2016 season commences on Thursday, March 24 with the traditional Richmond versus Carlton match at the MCG.

The bye rounds run from Round 14 to Round 16.

There will also be an additional bye round between Round 23 and the start of the finals series in an effort to discourage teams from resting large numbers of players.

The AFL has also chosen to host their first Friday night fixture in Tasmania, with North Melbourne and Richmond set to meet at Blundstone arena in Round 11.

Completely ignoring the AFL's actual reaction to the Swans 'stealing' Buddy from their love child GWS.

Fremantle don't deserve to play at the G'. Bring a brand of football that doesn't go sideways, backwards, averages about 9 goals a game and suffocates the life out of AFL fans.

Oh yes Paul D, I have plenty of happiness to rest on. But I assure you, as long as there are people who don't give Hawthorn due credit for what we've achieved, it goes without saying that we'll want more. It's just wrong that on one hand people downgrade our achievements but on the other hand we're a monstrosity that must be stopped.

I really try not to resort to ad hominem attacks Paul D. My arguments have not been personal towards Andyl12 (some frustration with his straw men maybe). But when I read "Fyfe’s broken leg was only fair given the amount of headhunting he’s done this year", I can only say that is a disgraceful comment.

Just be content that your club has crushed the dreams of them and their club. Repeatedly. Pocket the winnings and move on. Arguing the toss with people who in the absence of results are almost certainly going to result to excuses and ad hominem attacks doesn't do you any credit. At best you're going to get a grudging acceptance of how good Hawthorn has been, but I doubt anyone's going to be lining up to tell you how wonderful you are. Plenty of Hawthorn fans already in that queue.

My argument is that I don't accept criticism of Hawthorn actions by people who won't admit the full story. And I'm yet to hear a Freo fan admit the full story.

Yes, Alistair Clarkson, such a shy retiring violet that one. Never had a go at another bloke in his life. Brad Scott got into a dust-up with a fan down at Hobart this year too so I don’t see how you can claim people targeting coaches is just a Hawthorn thing. Fyfe has been suspended a few times over the preceding years. I don’t think any of his incidents were bad enough to see him get rubbed out this year, and I really couldn’t give a hoot if he won the Brownlow or not. I don’t understand the argument you’re trying to construct. Are you really trying to say Hawthorn is unfairly targeted and hard done by? I’m sorry, I can’t accept that as a proposition, I really cannot.

The Geelong game this year sold out - not surprised they're playing in Canberra again. Hopefully a better game this time; and thankfully being round 2 it won't be as cold as it was this year. I was freezing that day.....

Paul D- all of those players have been targeted before and will be targeted again. Plenty of our other players are targeted, not just by opposition players but by opposition fans. Sometimes fans even target our coach when he's walking down the street. The difference is that our blokes usually get a penance to serve, whereas blokes like Fyfe and Goodes don't. Even with Hayden Ballantyne, you only have to pay a free kick against him and the crowd will decide you've cost Fremantle the game. Jordan Lewis, on the other hand, gets rubbed out for self-confessed dives by his opponents and nobody bats an eyelid.

Canberra getting three decent games: Giants vs Geelong Giants vs Port Giants vs Richmond all three games might be impacting on the make up of the top 8, so real possibility of Manuka averaging 13+k across all three games, which is pretty good.

Who can ever forget that magnificent last round game in 1998 when 68,000 turned up at the G to see us battle it out for top spot.

Glad to see matches such as North v Doggies on a Friday night. Also cool that Swans host an SCG Friday night game. And North host a Friday night in Hobart. Also Adel, Freo, Geelong, Port and Eagles host Friday nights away from Melbourne. Changes the 'view' a little bit - there's too much sameness when just MCG or Etihad over and over.

Winning the prelim in Perth was a very good effort by Hawthorn. There were mitigating factors, but the best team on the night won. It's not exactly Australia beating India in India, but it's a very good away from home win. Not sure that we all need to get down and pay homage though. I'm sure Freo fans will think it's tremendously significant if they do win in Tasmania, and you will rightfully be able to say "big deal, why didn't you do it earlier". I assume it also follows from your attitudes that if someone goes and knees Sam Mitchell in a marking contest next year and breaks his ribs that's only fair? Maybe someone should elbow Hodge in the head, or drive his neck into a goalpost. Or slam Jordan Lewis across the face with a forearm. I mean, it's only fair...

Well, everybody said that we'd have to finish top 2 to win a flag because winning a final in Perth would be impossible for us. So it's a bit rich now to say we don't deserve big credit for defying the critics on that. It follows from your attitudes that if Freo beat us in Tassie next year, the win shouldn't be rated with any significance. Fyfe's broken leg was only fair given the amount of headhunting he's done this year. Although Ballantyne would've deserved it more.

Andy demanding we all obsequiously crawl around Hawthorn and pay homage to their wins in Perth is probably the most bile inducing thing I've read on here in a while.

To be honest, probably because Tassie fans don't want to see Lions get smashed again. Maybe they want someone who might beat Hawks in Tassie. Maybe they have to play their seconds team their.

I am a freo fan; I don't rate wins against WCE in Perth that highly. Sure, you played well against us and equally we choked. We also had umpire bias, a cooked KPF and our best player with a broken leg, caused by one of your players (naturally). Forgive me if I don't offer a standing ovation. Freo still travelled to get to the game, Andy - your team could travel 6 days before, if it wanted to. And Freo does it nearly 400% more often than Hawthorn. If you like, I could point out the 9 times Freo travels 400kms or more as the visiting team, as opposed to Hawthorn's 2. The point is equally made out. You started this with your rubbish about travelling 9 times. it is almost 400% less of a burden and I really cannot see why you are still trying to argue the point
