WATCH: Essendon's exciting new teenage ruckman

By The Roar / Editor

He was only introduced to Aussie Rules Football at the age of 14, and now, four years on, Gach Nyuon has an AFL contract with Essendon.

The Sudanese born teenager was pick number four in the AFL rookie draft with the Bombers realising his incredible potential in the ruck.

Nyuon is 199cm tall and according to Essendon’s website, possesses a relative running vertical jump of 94cm, which means he can reach an overall height of 362cm with a running leap. As you can see in the video above that puts him in rarefied air.

Essendon supporters have every right to be excited about their new recruit.

Mate he won All-Australian ruckman at this year U18 champs. He's obviously a gun.

Ruck infringements are come under a special category that are dependent on a cryptic set of factors which may or may not include of varying priorities: which ruckman, who the opposition is, time of day, location on the ground, proximity to the vernal equinox, caffeine levels of the umpire, the colour of the chicken innards in that mornings voodoo ceremony, as well as a variety of other less frequently applied criteria.

Yeah, pretty sure you can't block with a straight leg - bent legs are ok.

For talls there's a lot of development water usually to go under the bridge between where he is now and perhaps age 24-25 when he might be seriously coming good. The karate kick I'd've thought would be a free against - but Essendon will work tirelessly on his technique so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Is that karate kick legal? Has a tremendous leap but how's his speed, stamina and strength? Maybe fans shouldn't get too excited until they see how how he holds up for a year or two.
