UPDATE: Josh Hazlewood charged with dissent after DRS reaction

By Roar TV / Roar Guru

Cricketers are told from a young age to accept the umpire’s decision but the Australian cricket team couldn’t hide their disgust at a DRS review that went against them during the fourth day of the second Test against New Zealand.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was in no doubt he had trapped Black Cap batsman Kane Williamson LBW after going around the wicket.

Hazlewood and his teammates convinced captain Steve Smith to review the not out ruling and the DRS process played out.

The third umpire, Richard Illingworth saw a tiny hot spot on Williamson’s bat and told umpire Ranmore Martinesz to stay with his original not out ruling.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF AUSTRALIA’S BEHAVIOUR? HAVE YOUR SAY IN THE COMMENTS SECTION BELOW

The decision incensed Hazlewood who was clearly heard in the stump microphone offering some choice words.

“Who the f*** is the third umpire?” Hazlewood demanded.

Smith was also heard questioning the decision.

Hazlewood has been charged by the ICC for dissent towards an umpire’s decision and has pleaded guilty.

It’s not a good look for the side with some of the host commentators hitting out at some of the player’s actions, especially Hazlewood.

“I’m sorry but that behaviour is intolerable,” Commentator Mark Richardson said.

Fellow commentator Ian Smith also slammed Steve Smith and Hazlewood.

“You live by the sword you die by the sword, it’s not this man’s (Umpire Martinesz’) fault,” Smith said.

“He gave it not not. You asked, he provided the evidence. He does not deserve a grilling out there.”

However, one kiwi commentator did offer sympathy for the Australian players with Simon Doull sticking up for Hazlewood and his teammates.

The players didn’t see the hot spot. They did not see the mark on the bottom of the bat,” Doull said.

“You can’t see it on the big screen at the ground. So that’s why they’re grumpy. So to sit at home and record what you see and to chastise players on social media — just have a little bit of understanding to where they’re at in the middle as well.”

Umpire's Decision is final irrespective of all doubts. In this case there was a proof to support the original decision. How come Smith and Hazzlewood behave like this. The reason is Aussie players never had a sportsman spirit. Shame on you. If you are real sportsman show your real spirit and skills to win the matches. This type of behavior is a downfall of Aussie Cricket team.

You will need to explain how the microphone being off would have changed what occurred.

Hazelwood deserves the fine but it seems they forgot to switch off the stump mike. Great for ratings that one. This has been a point of concern for a while now and the procedure seemed to be that once the ball was dead, off went the mike. Unless the broadcaster can make something of leaving it on.

You have a vivid imagination. No one charged in at all. My recollection is that it was an umpire’s review.

how does the on field microphone have anything to do with this other than allowing us to hear what was said.

Maybe in a similar fashion to yesterday. Maybe not. Seeing as it didn't happen, we can't really say, can we? I'm not excusing Hazlewood's behaviour and neither's anyone else - he acted like a pill, got pulled up on it, pleaded guilty, copped the fine and hopefully learned his lesson. If NZ want to file that away in their folder of evidence that they are much better sports than Australia then they can go ahead. I'm just pointing out it's a bit ironic of them to take the moral high ground when it comes to dealing with disappointment over an umpiring decision.

I'll have you know that I played for Brazil in the 2002 football world cup where me and my pal Ronnie won the whole thing. I was the one that told him to have the ridiculous hair cut, but he wont admit that in public. I was also part of the '99 Rugby World Cup, Ealsy and myself roomed together for the whole tournament. In all honesty, I played 5 years of National Volleyball, 6 years of State level Football and 2 years of national level Futsal. If you think this was bad, you should go out and watch some F-League games.

Or Broad getting fined for 2 offences in the same day a few weeks back? And Stokes getting warned the same day?

Allanthus, for me the stump Mic's makes this worse than what it is..... And if it's so intolerable, how is that the ICC only fined Hazlewood 15% of his match fee? I'm not advocating the behaviour, however on the range of 1-10 on seriousness of the incident it's lucky to be 2 or a 3. They are not playing tiddly winks....They are playing Test Cricket for their country. I see incidents much, much worse on a weekly basis in Park Cricket.

Plumb? Really? Superb delivery and Australia were already frustrated but this is your take? Surely you're aware that ANY doubt favours the batsman? It's certainly favoured Voges and Lyons this season. Oh, got it. Different rules for Australia who are entitled to expect all calls go their way. What you can actually hear Hazlewood say is "Who the fu@k is the third Umpire?" His behaviour should have been controlled by Smith who turned away with a large pout. That he has been fined 15% of his match fee is a disgrace, sends the wrong message, and will perpetuate the behaviour that sees this team's fan base continue to diminish. I think that's a shame as they are showing they could be a really good team

Yep. The Marsh incident is now a precedent that makes everything Australian Cricket does OK. Thank goodness we have you to keep on reminding everyone.

Yeah mate. Young blokes who handled it so well. Poke your head out of the window mate; see the world. You're right though. The best team is going to win. Not sure they'll win any more fans though...

Not much chop for a Guru. Kiwi conspiracy. Kiwis worst and most biased commentators. Australia's ok then because their interpretation of the Laws has changed. Frustration is fine but to act like a group of emotional entitled schoolgirls is not. Good grief...

"It’s a waste of time saying another country is worse than Australia. " - but that's our only defence, haven;t you noticed?

If you've been watching at all you'll have noticed the stump mics were on throughout play in both tests - it adds to the experience for mine.

True Allanthus, it takes a bit more than a few consecutive tests between "blowups" to genuinely be seen as having modified behaviour. P.S. And supporters saying "but what about them..." or whatever iteration of that phrase as a defence bore me beyond caring.

I suspect you need to rewatch the vid Joseph if you think the ball passed too high to make that spot. If it wasn't the ball what was it do you think - given cricket bats, especially worn ones, have a curved end IE. the corners, particularly the inside one, are somewhat higher than teh middle?

Actually Michael, I've really enjoyed hearing the stump mic throughout the tests in NZ...
