The Twenty20 Cricket World Cup is underway and thanks to a last minute TV rights deal Australians were able to watch Zimbabwe, Hong Kong, Afghanistan and Scotland on day one.
The cricket delivered two close results with Zimbabwe and Afghanistan both claiming 14-run wins. There were two rather unique moments out of both games.
One was the bizarre run-out of Zimbabwean batsman Hamilton Masakadza who forgot the basic skill of bat sliding. What made his dismissal unusual was the fact no Hong Kong fielders appeared to be interested in the run-out, assuming Msakadza had got his foot down on the ground.
The umpire though thought he’d check and to the shock of commentators and Hong Kong players, Masakadza had his foot in the air.
In the Scotland-Afghanistan clash there was another strange run-out. Afghanistan captain Asghar Stanikzai hit the ball straight back at the stumps, dislodging the bails. His batting partner Mohammad Nabi was already half-way down the wicket when Scottish bowler Alasdair Evans picked up the ball ran to the stumps.
Under the laws of cricket once the bails are broken a player has to remove a stump to complete the run-out which Evans duly managed to do without a second thought.

Must've been the most subdued appeal for that run out - I suppose all it takes is one fielder making a sound that could possibly be interpreted as an appeal...

I agree it is a bit of a strange format but Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, Oman, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Scotland and Zimbabwe are the only teams in the first round. Two of those teams will progress to the main draw (Super 10). It's the reason why Australia is still in South Africa playing while the tournament has 'started'.

The most underwhelming start to such a big tournament I have seen. You would think India would play the opening game.
