Parramatta need to bring back The Emperor

By David Lord / Expert

Parramatta chairman Steve Sharp, CEO John Boulous, football manager Daniel Anderson, along with Tom Issa and Peter Serrao are the five officials the NRL wish to deregister over breaching the salary cap.

However they have headed for the Supreme Court rather than knuckle down to clear the deck so the Eels can start winning back the 12 points they’ve docked.

They quintet can’t be serious.

They have claimed in the Supreme Court the salary cap punishments prohibits staff from carrying out their duties under the Corporations Act.

There are just ten days for the Eels to get the roster under the salary cap – more than $500,000 – before they can start earning competition points.

Fallout from the Parra salary cap scandal
» Why Tuesday was the greatest day in Parra’s recent history
» Parramatta fans don’t deserve Parramatta’s boardroom
» Parramatta need to bring back The Emperor
» The Parramatta Five win first court battle against NRL
» Press conference: Parra breached the cap by $3 million, players may be investigated
» Parramatta docked 12 points, fined $1 million for salary cap breaches

The equation as it sits right now is Parramatta must win at least 12 of the remaining games to reach the finals. Every week the board takes to conform with the cap means fewer games in hand, and more wins required.

If the five officials had anything left in their support tank for their beleaguered team they butchered, they must collectively ride off into the rugby league sunset.

Goodbye and good riddance.

Instead, they are ignoring evidence from some 750,000 documents that says they have systematically rorted the salary cap.

So instead of bowing out as the NRL wants, they are flogging a dead horse, saying they will get it right given the time.

But the clock has stopped ticking, it’s all over red rover – their time is up.

Yesterday, Parramatta legend Dennis Fitzgerald surfaced as if scripted. Give him the job of settling the dust – it will be done superbly and in a hurry.

The first on the agenda would have to be warrior Anthony Watmough, who is on the long-term injured list and hasn’t played a game this season.

With his contract worth a reported $500,000-plus a season, suggest he retires gracefully and the salary cap excess would be wiped off with one stroke of the pen.

Then the Eels can start back in the points game, having dramatically dropped from fourth on 12 points to 16th on zero.

Go for it Denis, with your 30-plus years of experience.

Make the club that’s been your life live again.

Parramatta need a completely new board of people with a business acumen track record not made up of ex players/former officials with axes to grind or those that have had their day and are past it like Fitzgerald. As Sterlo suggested approaching someone like Bernie Gurr who has the track record in the corporate world and in sports administration would be a start.

I now go to the Parra AGM and have done since 2013 for 1 reason and that is to raise my hand against people who destroy community clubs for their own gain be it financial or other. Initially it was allegedly Spagnolo but, at the AGM this year as he raised accusations against the current board of over indulging on a trip to the Vegas to see how successful gaming worked 1st hand someone remarked "it never stopped you Dennis" and a really odd remark came back showing his true personality he said just out off mic, " no one ever dared ask". From what I have seen of this person he is not a nice person, he is a bitter hateful person and he is enjoying everything that is going on. A person like that is poison to any community because he is smart very quick witted and will always destroy anyone with decency and honesty that gets in his way because he will do absolutely anything to ensure that happens. Approximately 300 people showed up at the AGM and from the crowd sentiment and subsequent initial votes 250 of them supported Sharpe who is a plumber that got involved because he wanted to stop the roar ting and now that he fixed the joint everyone is tearing him apart because he never really made any provision to ensure his interests would be looked after above the clubs. Never fear though Dave, Dennis will always show up but, the best part is he is just looking a little more pathetic every year with his cheap died hair and silly carry on. Dennis is no longer a threat, he is just an old ring master in the current circus of Parra who has tragically returned as an evil clown. Unfortunately we give Dennis no respect because not because of what he has done but it is because of what he is doing that people no longer have any respect for the old Emperor turned court jester or more appropriate called circus "clown".

Fitzgerald would be the last person I would bring back on board. He made teh club almost his own personal fiefdom, created many divisions within the club, and he is backed by Hadley.Enough said David. Business people who have a passion for the club and would do nothing to harm it (such as what went on),is precisely what etc Eels board should be comprised. Most ex footballers have shown themselves to be out of the loop at board room level, especially in a highly competitive environment. As previously mentioned Peters at Manly , and might add Searle at the Gold Coast, hardly set the world on fire, and disaster followed.Well meaning but can't cut the mustard.

There was only 264 people at the AGM. by the end only 232 and some of them were the members who are the media writing the stories so even less fans.

in hindsight the middle para is overly harsh. you did add in the 'fact' as a defence on top of the victim strategy. apologies david.

surely it would be simpler instead of describing those that disagree with as the anti emperor brigade to just use the word EVERYONE i guess it would stop you pretending your idea is simply the victim of some kind of coordinated bullying rather just being plain old daft. i guess you have to have a strategy in place to reconcile the constant criticism but it further weakens your idea when you cant even reasonably defend it. btw i dont think you know what the word fact means. worrying for a professional "writer"

The clubs AGM was Monday. How many of those upset fans bothered to turn up to ask a question or vote? http://www.parraleagues.com.au/notice-of-agm

Yeah Christo. I heard the Eels administration at that time were actually Lizard people and the rigged the NSWLR competition so Eels would win. Gotta be careful with those lizard people. They're everywhere.

I'm pretty sure the NRL reviewed 750,000 documents. There weren't 750,000 documents showed evidence of systematic rorting. Also Watmough cannot just retire to clear his salary from the cap. An independent NRL doctor must agree that Watmough is incapacitated through an injury severe enough that he cannot return to play again. Sloppy "journalism" David.

Yeah they were definitely over the cap in those days. Oh wait they didn't have a cap in the 80's. In all seriousness did you know that jet fuel isn't hot enough to melt steel beams?

"4 premierships" With the benefit of hindsight, you have to wonder whether the club won those premierships fairly and squarely....

Just Say No to Fitzgerald. And I'm a Manly fan. We have suffered for years under the likes of Peter Peters and so I wouldn't wish one of these dinosaurs on any club.

What the administration of the football club needs is a complete new board that has no connections to the past. A clean slate. End of story.
