Highlights: Late comeback from Kings defeats ill-disciplined Jaguares

By Connor Bennett / Editor

Late tries from fullback Dewald Human and winger Wandie Mjekevu turned the tide in favour of the Southern Kings as they defeated the ill-disciplined Jaguares 29-22 for a second win of the Super Rugby season.

The visitors received two red cards in the first half as lock Tomas Lavanini and prop Ramiro Herrera were penalised for overly robust play. They finished the game with 12 men after a yellow card for flanker Tomas Lezana.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, the Jaguares led 22-10 with 10 minutes remaining, but ran out of legs and defenders as the Kings took revenge for a 73-27 loss in Buenos Aires last month.

The Jaguares were really on the back foot following their two red cards in the first half. They somehow managed to grind themselves into dominant position during the second 40, but some late pressure and a third man sent to the sheds in the final 25 minutes was the catalyst for a Kings comeback.

It wasn’t the most technical or free flowing game of rugby, but it still managed to pull out a dramatic finish.

Both sides walk away with a bonus point out of the match, despite that not meaning anything really considering their standings at the wrong end of the table.

Final score
Kings 29
Jaguares 22

Two weeks in a row: refs have pinged Jags far less than their SA opponents. The problem is red cards are so much harder to overcome than penalties.

I think the expectation that they would be challenging for the title and at least make the finals , and then coupled with their poor results AND some harsh refereeing against them in vital games has made the players very very frustrated.

Actually most clubs in Argentina ( with the exeption of mine that drives the ranks on yellows) there are not that ill discipline. There is something going on within the team that we do not know just yet.

Right on cue Nobrain... and wow what a shocker for your Jags. As I've just posted... like what I really want to know is what's with the ill-discipline in the Jags? Don't take this the wrong way... but they do know they are now playing in a comp that's outside of Argentina??

Hey Connor... good morning buddy?? :) We touched on this last night... regards the 'tipping' going down the gurglar, but I didn't see this one coming. Wow... 13 men for most of the match for the Jags. Good effort then all things considered. But hasn't 'ill discipline' or bad calls gone the way of against the Jags this season. I reckon Nobrain and Carlos are going spare at the present mo... which is not being unkind on my behalf, but more like sympathetic :)

Well , something must be really going on with Jaguares, two well given red cards for the same type of action? Two players with international experience that have been given santions in the past for the same dangerous shoulder hit is not very common. Haven ' t learned anything? By now I am suspicius that it must be a problem with the staff or managers. I mean Lvanini, Herrera and some other players have given up money in Europe to play in SR as well as some other players, may be incentive money for winning that now it will be not coming to them and has widen the difference thay they could have earned and what what they will actually get could be a reason. Both's shoulder charge were so obvious, unnecessary, and in th open. It is a sign of frustration. Now both will be out for The Pumas and I hope the make it to RCH, the lack of props is a problem and the scrum is not a dream nowday like it used to be. I do not think this type of behavior would have been permitted with Hourcade as a head coach. Club rugby is over guys, you are pros now, so behave like ones.
