Perth Glory vs Melbourne Victory highlights: Glory fight back to win 2-1

By Mat Datson / Roar Guru

Perth Glory who are yet to lose a game in 2017 play host to the wounded Melbourne Victory who are coming off a midweek trip across the ditch. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 8pm (AEDT).

Victory are currently second behind the dominant Sydney FC on the A-League table, just eight points behind the Sky Blues. Perth, after a disappointing start to the season, find themselves just scraping into sixth.

Glory are starting to show signs that they aren’t out of the race for the top four having not lost for over a month now after a hard fought 2-2 draw with the Jets last week.

The front three of Taggart, Keogh and Castro looking really good for major parts of the game last week. Ominous signs for other teams as they are all class.

Last Friday Victory came away with the three points in one of the games of the season again against Brisbane.

But it all fell apart mid-week when they travelled to New Zealand and lost 3-0 to Wellington.

Many were surprised with Muscat going with largely the same eleven as on the weekend with this game coming up. It definitely showed in the performance as they were sluggish for the entire 90.

Victory have the depth up forward to be rotating their players so it will be interesting to see if changes are made.

Last time these two sides met it came out all square with a 1-1 draw. It was mostly Victory dominating the match after Keogh put Glory in front early and were content with the draw after Berisha levelled in the first half.

Prediction
I expect a very different contest from the previous meeting with the continued improvement from Glory and the 3 games in a week for Victory I expect the home side to walk away with all 3 points this evening.

Glory 2-1

Victory have had a fair bit of luck this season . Losing to Wellington 3-0. No excuses. Losing tonight slightly unlucky but they had the lead and as Muscat said. Fatigue didn't make them defend that free kick so poorly . Good game tonight

Victory unlucky, 3 games and 8,000 km of travel in one week, saved penalty, marginal offside call on their second goal. Makes Thursday a must win game. I think after the Big Blue, they have another Melbourne Derby. 2 losses in a row could see Melbourne City overtake them for second. Some great battles going on for the remaining finals spots and another big game tomorrow for the Wanderers and Jets to grab sixth spot again. Perth bounced back brilliantly and finished the stronger. Castro is all class, Taggart back to scoring in the A-League and Keogh the best centre forward in the league, even if he is not scoring, he is creating room and chances for the others.

Perth Glory have continued on their merry ways back up the table with a come from behind 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory. In what was a tight tussle in the first half it took some poor defending from Lowry who brought down Troisi in the box to create the best chance of the half. But in what has been a stellar season for Reddy he once again stepped up to the plate to deny Berisha low to his right. The second half was a completley different story to the first with chances for both sides coming thick and fast. Until the 58th minute when victory unleashed a fantastic counter attack leading to Troisi 1on1 with Mills with the Glory defender bringing him down and gifting Victory their 2nd penalty of the game. Berisha this time went the other way with his kick and put the away side up. After the goal though it was all Perth for the remaining of the game with Victory running out of legs after a tough week of travelling. Castro kept finding space time after time which lead to Perth earning a free kick on the edge of the box at the 77th minute. Substitue Marinkovic beautifully placed his free kick around the wall leaving Thomas in no mans land. Seven minutes later it was that man Castro with some brilliant work to pick out Taggart in the box (4goals in 5matches) to calmly put the ball in the back of the net to give the home side all 3points.

Oh my sweet sorrow. Victory could have been 2 points behind Sydney with the home Big Blue on Thurs at Etihad. Surely Sydney will wrap up the Premiers Plate on Thursday night. Can't wait to hear Muscat blame the FFA for the Wellington earthquake. Looks like the extra game farked the Nix and Victory,

No doubt MVFC will appeal against losing the last two games due to the frequent flyer points they've been forced to aquire over the past week......may even ask the MRP to come in early tomorrow, lol.

what an advertisement for the league in the second half, a come back win with some class play from the home side, but the victory had some very good counter-attacks. Diego castro tho....no words
