Moses to be released after Easter: reports

By Josh / Expert

Mitchell Moses will be released from the Wests Tigers and allowed to join the Parramatta Eels after Easter, according to a tweet from the Daily Telegraph’s Buzz Rothfield.

Rothfield tweeted: “BREAKING: @mitchmoses6 DEFINITELY sticking to @TheParraEels contract – will be released early by @WestsTigers – next week”

Rothfield later clarified that Moses would play for the Tigers in their Easter Monday game against the Eels before being released.

There do appear to be some mixed messages coming through however after Tony Adams tweeted on Sunday night that Moses was considering remaining with the Tigers.

Adams tweeted: “BREAKING: My man @RLW_Mole tells me Mitchell Moses considering backflipping on deal with @TheParraEels and staying at @WestsTigers”

Moses has already signed a two-year deal with the Parramatta Eels starting in 2018, but last week requested an early release from the Tigers to join the Eels immediately.

Former Tigers coach Jason Taylor said that he would release Moses from his contract if he was still running the show at Wests, believing that Moses’ moving on would do good things for Luke Brooks.

“I think that (Brooks) needs to step up and lead this team and I don’t think that it’s going to be a negative for Luke if Mitch does move to Parramatta,” Taylor said.

“It gives Luke the opportunity to own the team, he needs to take over it and run it in his fashion.”

Taylor said Moses signing with the Eels had come as a suprise.

“I was surprised initially, (it was) a big surprise.

“The big thing happening with the Wests Tigers in the last few weeks is the issues in the background are really affecting the way this team’s playing.”

Scott Minto could tear it apart in the PMs 13. Not really a top tier quality game.

They wouldn't have offered it if they thought he wasn't worth it..market decides price...and the market says $850k whether we like it or not......represented Australia last year in the Prime Ministers team, tore it apart..let's see what happens after Easter..

And they were right to take that offer off the table. Over 1 million per year??.....that's Cooper Cronk money. I imagine its more likely he was told you're not worth that much.....and he isn't....at least not yet. Hasn't played Semi final football, SOO or any internationals so whoever offered him that amount is certifiable.

Moses had his contract taken off the table and told he was no longer a priority..and you talk of dissrespect...he showed them what they can do with their priorities last Sunday..wherein Woods and Teddy were both average at best.

I agree that the Tiges are slim chances to make the 8 even with Moses. Without him however they might as well just put the cue in the rack now because they are no chance. If Moses wants to leave next year that's fine, but to leave his mates and the fans in the lurch this year is just totally disrespectful imo. And from an Admin POV why give another side like Parra a leg up at the expense of your own club. Makes no sense to me unless the Tigers are getting something in return.

Trade Deadlines in the US don't prevent any player movements mid season if anything they encourage it and turn players into a commodity. The Trade Deadline is usually around the 2nd third of a season to prevent teams stacking their roster for the playoffs by either stopping trade altogether or banning any player traded after the deadline from playing in the play offs. The NRL system while no where near perfect is at least a personal option for the player and not decided by the club. We just need to make a contract mean something and have players and coaches see out the original terms. We can't restrict players organizing their playing futures.

Steve They were never a chance of making the finals, they just don't have the cattle. Their NSW cup team is woeful and if there was a mercy rule in rugby league, most of their games would have fallen under that. So when Woods and Tedesco go to State of Origin, they have nobody to fill in. From here they have 20 rounds to go. The cut off point is normally win half of your games.....26 points. Tigers have 4 and need to win 11 of 20 available, and then one to make up for their atrocious for and against. So to win 12 games our of 20, then 3 without their origin players, that makes 12 out of 17, they need to win 70% of their games. Thats a bridge too far for the Tigers with a predominately NSW cup roster. Take into consideration that Brooks and Tedesco are injury prone, then you can see the enormity of the job. I totally agree, keep Moses. Who else have they got. Don't bow to his request, the punters that pay their hard earned every week is the crowd they should be taking advice from. Put your best out each week, and Moses happens to be one of their best.

So after all the hullabaloo over Moses so-celled inspirational performance against the Cowboys last week he's going to up and leave 2 weeks later, almost certainly condemning the Tigers to missing out on the finals this year. What a great guy....seriously, if he was my teammate I'd never speak to him again. Not a Tigers fan, but if I was I'd be fuming. Talk about leaving your mates in the lurch.

There has to be a trade period (Free Agency) implemented like in NFL and AFL. This has become a circus. The NRL needs to fix it. Get trades done in the off season, fans deserve better than this.

I would think to keep Aaron Woods and James Tedesco they would want to know they had a competitive Forward Pack. That is nowhere in sight at the moment at the Tigers. So requiring them to make a decision now will work against the Tigers. They will go to a historically strong club so they have a chance at finals and representative football and can improve their games.
