Glorious Perth crush City 2-0

By Mat Datson / Roar Guru

Just like last week, Perth Glory have beaten Melbourne City this time coming away with a 2-0 victory at AAMI Park.

Perth will now go on to face the premiers Sydney FC for a spot in the grand final, while Melbourne with all their star power will look back at another wasted season.

It was mostly Perth from the outset with Melbourne looking very sluggish and never really threatened throughout the whole night with Reddy only having to make two saves.

Diego Castro was the man in the first half as he was pulling all the strings and in the 16th minute after some terrible City defending allowed him too much space in the box he calmly put the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.

Perth doubled their lead in the 30th minute after Jakobsen turned the ball over in the middle of the park and they swiftly pounced with Chianese given too much time in the box to drill his shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

City started the second half much better and were peppering the box with crosses but they just lacked that final ball. Dino Djulbic was also huge defending for Glory as he was stopping everything that came his way.

Taggart almost made it 3-0 late on after a delightful Castro ball but Taggart couldn’t get around Bouzanis. City were throwing everything at Glory late with Fitzgerald skying a shot that may have made the ending interesting but never looked likely.

Final score
Melbourne City 0
Perth Glory 2

City started the season with a new style of play which surprised other teams but never got better when the other teams caught on. Worse still the simply did not change. I wonder if City mgmt will ever realise that spending tons of $ on players is not the answer. They need to start with a good coach and ease up on the hype.

Couldn't have put it better Martyn50, but what do you think can be done to increase crowds? .......Banana throwing competitions? ......or maybe free Peptide sample give aways? I got it, a free performance enhancing subscription to the first guy that stands up and smacks some female square in the mush..... .......whatdyareckon Marty?

My prediction of the outcome indicated which Perth team would show up but it would be close...it was the opposite. In the end Perth's leaky defence wasn't really tested but if your own is disjointed there's no doubting Perth's firepower. Pretty disappointing for City fans, more so for CFG. Going to be interesting to see how they react and build for next season. All starts with the coaching appointment I think. -- There was a shot of Ange in the stands. Was he scanning for the National Team, while also having one eye on a postWorld Cup gig?

He's right though. They aren't an embarrassment but it is farcical. At one end there is Fornaroli and Cahill, at the other Rose , Muscat et al, apparently thrown together without training. The real culprit is the City Group management, employing first JVS, and then replacing him with Valkanis. This is what you get...,

City have regressed more than any other team this season. It's a bit hard to know which players to keep and build a side around for next season? The starting point has to be a good coach, followed by a good coach picking his own squad, whoever in charge of recruitment seems to underestimate the A League - I get the impression they scan other teams and recruit "their best player" without having a clue what it takes to build a good squad or what style/ethos they want at City. Recruits seem to join CFG rather than City leading to hollow, soulless performances like this one. It's all a bit inexplicable really.

Melbourne city. The embarrassment of the A league . An unlimited salary cap but buy no defenders. Well done glory for shaming this plastic ridiculous club

You have to wonder where that defensive discipline and organization has been all season from Glory, pretty much a perfect performance City were only ever going to score from a set piece. Take that into next week and we're a chance against Sydney.
