Wallabies DIY player ratings vs Scotland: The results

By The Roar / Editor

The results are in! Yesterday, we asked you to rate the Wallabies side that took to the field against Scotland, and now we’ve added up the data from all of our responders to bring your our DIY player ratings from the Test.

Unsurprisingly after an average performance by the home side, the voters were not too impressed, with the majority of the side getting an average rating below five.

Will Genia and debutant Eto Nabuli were set aside as the Wallabies’ worst, Genia with an average rating of 3.66 and Nabuli with 3.42.

The good news stories, such as they were, were skipper Michael Hooper, Karmichael Hunt and Israel Folau all receiving an average rating of six or above, with Folau at 6.53 the best afield for the Wallabies.

Check out the full results below, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Folau is the most over rated, over paid player in the team. He is never in position in defence, letting in more tries than he scores himself. On top of this he is lazy in attack. Haylett-Petty is a must at FB and Hodge must be in the run on team.Joe P should be given a chance in the starting team, as Genia is well below his best and Kuridrani and Nabuli have been unimpressive.

As opposed to watching it from 15 the way Folau does?

I think a lot of people bring baggage and bias when rating players. I am not a fan of his but in this game I liked his performance. He didn't have to do much defending so we didn't get to see any of his usual blunders.

Fact 1: A Rugby game is 80 minutes long and requires both attack and defense. Fact 2: More tries are scored by the outer backs. By your logic, Coleman under-performed because he didn't score any tries. Folau is a master of the high ball, without him that try would not have been scored. Without the forward pack creating the platform and Foley's surgical kick it would not have been scored either. There were 15 guys working together to make that happen. Folau is the one on the Highlights reel though. Foley gets a kick in the plums for being a weak 10 even though he and DHP did all of Folau's defensive work in the back field for 70 minutes. The second would have been scored by whichever player was wearing the jersey at the time. I have seen DHP do a run just like it against Argentina. Full credit to him for the run but the guys around him set it up. Having Superstars with special skills in the team is great for icing, but they need to do be able to make the cake as well.

The next biggest downside is with DHP at f/b the aerial bombardment would recommence and he would drop half of them Very unfair comment. Haylett Petty is safe as houses 99% of the time, I rate him higher than Folau as far as safe hands.

2 tries per game makes him the best player on the field in any team – ever. Oh please, Folau isn't in the discussion for best player ever. He's not even in the same book. He's not in the same aisle or the same library, he's barely in the same language.

So who is pressing for his spot? Hunt and DHP off the top of my head.

For the 15 Spot: DHP, Hodge, Hunt, Banks, Kellaway, Debraczeni. All currently contacted SR players. For a 14 Spot: Niavalu, Speight, Luke Morahan For a 13 Spot: Samu Kerevi, TK, Curtis Rona. The loss of Folau would reduce the poition's attacking capability by 5% but increase the defense by 50%. It would also reduce the moving parts by 100% No need to look to league unless you are looking for a 10 or 12. There are 8 on the field each NRL Game

And what are our AFL states again. Qld, NSW, Vic, SA, WA, Tas, NT I think the point here (lost in argument) is that Izzy isn't the only AFL player that is good under a Highball. The point is that it should take more than this to get a Gold Jersey. Add NRL running Lines and we are starting to look at a pretty good Attacking Player. Add an Ability to defend and you now have an NRL player or a Rugby #11/13/14. Add 10 years experience covering the vast wasteland that is the a Rugby Union backfield and you get yourself a fullback.

Wallabies compared to any world team still a class, I think the only problem is some players aren't switch on especially in defence and counter. Watch the ABs, they'er playing a tune. I strongly support if selected players are pull out for the preparation process early. National duty should be prioritised.

He's not in great form, for sure, but you're definitely exaggerating how poor he is under the high ball.

yeah I agree Quade was one of the few good performers when he came on. There were multiple errors from most of them but not QC and he did spark the attack well.

How many highballs did DHP catch? I know he missed 2, I am sure he didn't catch more than 2. He is in poor form, but some don't want to accept it. I am not confident at all that he would catch any particular highball with players competing with him.

@ Marlin hahahahaha you're hilarious. Folau scored 2 tries and all you can say is "what else does he ever do" hahaha. Got news for ya Marlin - 2 tries per game makes him the best player on the field in any team - ever. And then the totally absurd complaint his taking of high balls is only 50/50 hehehe. I think you got the wrong fullback Marlin - that's Beale with a 50/50 rating. Folau is more like 99%. Very rare to see him miss one ever.

C'mon Peter, we both know that you're basing this solely off one dropped ball on with extreme pressure. DHP is Australia's second best under the high ball, with Folau obviously being the first

I marked Robertson and Sio up for surviving Nell, the man a menace to young looseheads everywhere. People criticise Robertson for not offering a lot around the park, but I am just glad he scrummages well, he only gave away one penalty at the start but apart from that the scrum was solid.

"The next biggest downside is with DHP at f/b the aerial bombardment would recommence and he would drop half of them" How do you consistently come up with such utter bs?

Matt Ocks, I think your anti-Folau rant is really drawing a long bow to blame him for the first Scotland try. Why would Izzy Folau be standing deep and behind the ball in defence when Australia had the ball? He was lined up just behind the backline threatening to run onto the ball. Strangely enough that's what most fullbacks do when their side is on attack. The fact that W.Genia threw a shocker pass which bounced along the ground in the general area where TPN was just may have something to do with that gift try. TPN fell on the ball then for some reason threw it towards KHunt (I think), which was intercepted by one very happy #12. As for the third try, faced with a 3 or 4 on 1, would you have rather that I.Folau cream the ball carrier even though he has passed it, or perhaps a feeble attempt at intercepting the ball? Perhaps one might ask how the Scots, who were fairly well-held to that point, got so many men wide with the ball. I haven't seen a replay yet but from the stands it looked like a horrible tackle miss by T.Kuridrani, and DHP getting wiped out by R.Hodge. I am more worried by some of the weak selections of the WB team with barely any thought of what the opposition may bring, and the almost obsessive adherence of a single plan rather than a variety. Its just comes across as a vainglory "do it my way or the highway" demand by the coach. I really hope that I am wrong.
