AFL trade news and rumours Day 2 live blog

By Josh / Expert

We’ve been through weeks and months of talk, now the time is finally here for action. At 9am AEDT, the AFL trade period officially begins. Join The Roar for a live blog of all the news and rumours.

The latest news to start you off this morning is that Brisbane and Josh Schache have reportedly reached an agreement to send Schache home to Victoria if a suitable deal can be found this offseason.

A few other pieces of news from over the weekend:

Steven Motlop now looks more likely to join the Adelaide Crows than any other club, with Adelaide reportedly willing to put up an offer in excess of $600,000 a year for him. Port Adelaide are the only other serious suitor and their offer is believed to be about $450,000 a year.

Despite a meeting with Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe, Jesse Hogan has told Melbourne he doesn’t want to be traded. This rumour always seems to live on but you’d expect that’s the end of it for this year.

Also, it appears Jarman Impey has definitively picked Hawthorn as a trade destination over an offer from the Western Bulldogs. He’s contracted for next year but the Power will probably be happy to do a deal.

Today all eighteen clubs will meet at Etihad Stadium from 9am till noon to engage in a round of what is is essentially speed dating – each club will meet with each other club for a short time to discuss any potential trade deals between the two.

In some cases conversations have already begun weeks ago where players have made it clear that they wish to move from one club to another – this is the case for big-name movers like Jake Lever of Luke Hodge.

However those smaller-scale deals often start here as clubs make it clear to one another which players they’ll consider a trade deal for and which they won’t – so we might hear about some new players being place on the market today.

Of course, what that means is that if we get a trade deal officially done today it likely won’t come until the afternoon, and it’ll only be if it’s one that can be ticked off pretty quickly by the clubs involved.

If I had to pick one I’d say the Luke Hodge to Brisbane deal might get done today. Hawthorn have no reason to hold things up and he’s already confirmed he wants to join the Lions, so it should go through as soon as the Ts are crossed and the Is dotted.

Free agency of course is open too and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tom Rockliff officially accept a deal from Port Adelaide today, though as a restricted free agent he’ll have to wait for formal confirmation from Brisbane that they won’t match the offer.

Of course, in addition to any official news, there’ll be plenty of rumour, innuendo, banter and discussion – feel free to toss in here anything you feel like talking about and we’ll do it! Join me for a live blog all day of everything AFL trades from 9am AEDT.

"Lash out" and "insecure". Those are 2 words or expressions I wouldn't have used when interpreting Pyke's response. I think the media have used a degree of poetic licence when describing the events. Historically for a whole variety of reasons clubs refrain from talking about the players they covet. And again, the in-season timing was poor.

Adelaide media driven by Rucci and Cornes. Both Port Adelaide fanboys posing as journalists with an intense hatred for all things Crows. There's your negativity right there buddy boy.

Gibbs was out of season. Cameron during the season. Not hypocritical.

GJ, Fagan was asked if he'd like Cameron at the club and answered it honestly The classy thing for Pyke and Adelaide to do would have been to say "well so would 16 other clubs, but he's contracted to us and loves it here" not spit the dummy and lash out in a fit of insecurity

Didn't say it was Josh's fault, just that there was hardly any big news. I think we can settle in for a few slow news days this week, I mean if Tom Rockliff still hasn't lodged papers to say he wants to go to a club he announced he wanted to go to last Thursday people are hardly in a rush to get things done.

Not Josh's fault clubs aren't pulling the trigger on trades. Slow news days are a thing.

Hanley is a prat. Macca is right too, they were all out of contract. We had to either trade or let them walk for nothing. if Adelaide want to be churlish and not take their thumb out of their mouth down there, they're perfectly entitled to hold onto Cameron.

Agreed Macca. Freo and Richmond had the best trade outcomes last year. Looks like it might be Essendon this year. At least we picked-up Trengrove for nothing. I still think the Free Agency is a rort for the clubs that receive free agents.

Larry - which of the go home 5 was contracted? And it wasn't just outsiders who thought the Lions were better off without them; "life goes on, you grow up and inevitably move away from home.. Appreciate the tweet #mummiesboysarehomenow Pearce Hanley (@pearcehanley) October 25" As for Port getting involved with Adelaide so they can get a free agent - never going to happen.

Maybe he's not contributing in team meetings. Or he's not performing well at local school clinics. Or he's got gambling debts. Or he's been cheating on his girlfriend. Maybe he complained about Zac Dawson getting two games this year.

Plenty of self serving comments on the roar because of the limited news on possible trades. Why is it that the Lions were berated widely and told they were better off without blokes who didn't want to be there over the 'go home 5' but when Cameron asks for a trade they're told it's wishful thinking so forget it. There is a limited batch of Qld bred talent around that reduces the homesickness excuse but the clubs in the major afl states don't want the lions to get any advantage there, Eddie is a bitter person after all these years. Lions should require Port to get involved somehow to have Adelaide trade Cameron if they want Rockliff.

Brad Lloyd, with his own mouth, said he wasn't interested. Who ya gonna believe? It wouldn't be the first time a footballer has told a pretend story.
