England coach Eddie Jones has lashed his European champions as “f***ing stupid” in a spicy build-up to Saturday’s showdown with the Wallabies.
Not happy with a dour 21-8 victory over Argentina, which he described as a “grindathon”, Jones is demanding improvements as England chase a fifth straight win over Australia.
The former Wallabies boss was forced to defend his foul-mouthed tirade after being caught on television venting his frustration in the coaches’ box at Twickenham.
A livid Jones was seen throwing down his notepad and mouthing “F***, how f***ing stupid are we?” after flanker Sam Underhill conceded a penalty inside the England quarter.
“I haven’t seen it,” he said when asked about his tantrum.
“How frustrated? Throwing stuff? That is pretty frustrated,” Jones added.
“We want to play well, we want to play good rugby, and I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be frustrated.”
It was England’s 20th victory in 21 matches since Jones took over as coach following the tournament hosts’ humiliating pool-stage exit from the 2015 World Cup.
But Jones’ first public display of anger as England coach was very different from 12 months ago when he began the verbal sparring with Michael Cheika’s Wallabies a week before the sides met.
After also beating the Pumas that day, Jones said he’d be speaking to the referee about the Wallabies scrum, prompting a furious return of serve from an irate Cheika, his former Randwick teammate.
England went on to win comfortably 37-21, backing up their 3-0 series win over Cheika’s Wallabies in Australia.
But with the Wallabies now unbeaten in seven matches and with a recent win over the All Blacks under their belt – something Jones’ side cannot boast – Saturday is shaping up to be a blockbuster.
“We know how we want to play against Australia,” Jones said.
“We’ve got a very clear vision of how we want to play against Australia and it should be fun.
“We are hoping Australia bring their absolute best game. These games are about seeing where we are at.”
Cheika refused to bite when asked about Jones on Saturday following his side’s win over Wales.
“Mate, it’s irrelevant. It’s Australia versus England,” he said.
“That’s the only thing that counts. It’s not about fun with Eddie or anyone. We’ll have fun in our own camp and then prepare ourselves best we can each day.”

Both coaches high reactors with very similar words. Have to wonder if a very excitable Aussie was hanging around Korea and Lebanon around that era.

Looked like he was blaming his players, not admitting fault

Jones is correct about the lackluster, unadventurous game played by English in their win. Where was he baiting Chelka? I have alot more respect for a coach like Jones than Coetzee who will never admit his tactics are bad.

I feel bad for Cheika when Eddie starts baiting him.
