NSW reportedly decide on their next Origin coach

It's not about pride or passion for NSW they have always had that, it's the selectors who are killing NSW all they do is pick there mate's and not the best player's we have in NSW . And as far as Fittler goes he isn't the answer either he is from the same school as Daley and he can't coach either, he will only pick his mate's also like Daley so get ready for another debacle next year.

Young Petey-boy, Firstly, on a Saturday night (not Saddy night, you troglodyte) I might frequent the Country Club close to where I reside if I so desire, as fortunately, we have no public bars in the quaint hamlet where I live. And yes, I am held in awe struck admiration when I enter the Country Club. Secondly, disappointing that Scotty-boy has to set-up an additional account to reply. Thirdly, there must be value in what I write, Petey-boy (or Scott) as you replied back. Now I'm heading off to the Country Club.

IMO it wasn't the halves that were the issue with NSW but took most the blame. Pearce and Carney/Grub are quality with Farrah and (as time progressed) Snake/Moylan/Tede. Again, IMO, NSW biggest issue was Gallen. He tries his heart out which is his best and worst quality and Farrah gave him the ball every time he called, which was constantly, thus, limiting what the spine should be doing. He is the stats king and in post game you read 150m, 5 offloads, 40tackles but doesn't account for opportunity cost. Pearce was never given the opportunity to steer that team around because was so domineering. He should be a leader but he should never have been captain. Take the Sharks, Ennis knew when to give him the ball and not because the forwards have their role, get the meters and get out of the way. Graham is going the same way for NSW. Very skilled and gives 100% but pushes the boundaries when not called for - penalty - Qld 40m down the park with a fresh set. Just like Gallen did early in his rep career. This is Freddies oppo. Sure pick Pearce for maturity but the future is Moylan, Moses, Tede, Turbo, Mansauce, Bird (utility), Roberts (maybe) Have Cleary involved (18th) Klemmer, RGC, Jurbo, Friz, Cordiner, Jackson, Graham, McLean, Vaughan. Peats isn't Smith but no one is. He is good for service, talk and tackles. Possibly Api? The biggest difference in the last few years is maturity. No mistakes and no penalties at dumb times. NSW have great depth across the board but now Qld have developed another Gen of great players in key positions as well.

Not sure id call B Fittler 'media savvy' Himself and Joey always trying to be the funny guy seeking attention. In coaching this might work short term but when pressure on it will dissipate rapidly. What's needed is a highly tactical coach like Bellamy. Surely there are better options!

Have NSW learned nothing... For their sake i hope Fitter doesn't pick the same players and thinks oustide the box!

Bit like you princess scottyw "the self appointed guru", maybe they were not keen (or more likely not smart enough, like you) to answer the hard questions asked. Sad. Like the old saying little scottyw, "fake it till you make it". As you know down deep, you'll also be the ''faker'', never the ''maker''.

Daley's playing and media cv is just as good as Fitler's and he didn't get the team to perform. NSW should have won this year, there is simply no excuse. But it was poor coaching and selections that let them down. Hope Fitler has been paying attention...

It wouldn't matter if Smith and Thurston got dropped, the great ones come back. NSW get bagged whatever they do. Why do they keep on selecting Pearce and Robbie Farrah they say but they are also criticised for changing and not sticking by players. Who would you pick for NSW and stick by them for 10 years given the advantage of hindsight? Brett Stewart and Carney I believe had the talent to match the QLD spine but they clearly weren't available for 10 years. Do you put Ennis at hooker? Good player but he's not Cameron Smith. It was easy when we had a lot of champions, I seem to recall Fittler playing lock and Johns playing hooker. NSW haven't produced one certified champion half , five eight or hooker in 10 years, good luck against QLD .

Hopefully that is what Freddie will bring back to NSW.

I think you're being little harsh on the quality of that NSW team. Those blokes are big outs but Hodgson was 05 Dally M FB and GF premiership winner. Budsy was still Aust Hooker, Gaznier, Cooper, King, Tahu, Anasta, Menzies, Hindmarsh, Mason, Craig Wing, O'Meley and Bobcat Ryan... I would take them. Hodges and Inglis only played G1, replaced by Mogg and Hannay. Smith and JT had both been in losing series (04/05 and 05 respectively) Lockyer's 1st yr at 5/8 and 3 different FBs in 06 (no Slater). Hindsight says they came good but by comparison to the then current NSW team, only Lockyer was a recognised rep player. You are right about the spine of NSW since then but that was the selectors changing every year - even after '14' series win. Imagine if Qld dropped Smith and JT after their first few series losses?

Whether by accident or design , Mal took over at the best possible time. Minichello, Kennedy and Johns dissappear for NSW and Hodgson becomes fullback and Finch half back. For QLD Bowman and Sing in the centres are replaced by Hodges and Tate. Inglis is soon to be a force and Buderus is on the way out. Smith has more than a decade ahead of him and Cronk is on the horizon. No wonder Mal smiles so much these days. QLD tend to win when they have the better team and NSW will win again more consistently when they have the better team. I don't agree that when QLD lost in the past that it was due to lack of pride and passion, they were undone by a better team. History has clarified NSW's main problem , their spine has been inferior to QLD

This was a "done deal" in late August; not sure why NSW have delayed the announcement.

I sincerely hope it is Mr Fittler. Proven player, involved in coaching at specialist level, totally media savvy & has a network to rival any, a players coach who will tell it like it is but in a man manager fashion. Haters gonna hate, but if you think you know more or have done more in rugby league than Freddy then please submit your CV.

Come on Greg, NSW were 3 straight when Mal took over QLD in 06. NSW have always had the ability and depth so Freddie needs to add the pride and passion in the blue jumper cause simply hating the maroon one doesn't work.

Big Mal discovered the secret to happiness. Steer clear of coaching at club level and retire from politics after 5 minutes to coach QLD and then the Kangaroos while they are both dominant. Freddy could be at the start of a similar run.
