Souths slam Sea Eagles 30-6

By Alan / Roar Guru

South Sydney are on the board in season 2018, securing a tough 30-6 win over Manly at ANZ Stadium.

After scoring nine tries last week, the Sea Eagles never really threatened with the footy against a determined Rabbitohs side that simply wanted it more this week.

The Bunnies backline was able to cash in today, with Robert Jennings and Richie Kennar scoring a hattrick and double respectively.

Credit has to be given though to the Rabbitohs pack with the Burgess brothers leading from the front yet again and dominating Manly’s fancied pack.

Manly were flat all round and never really got going in the wet weather. The Bunnies won the arm wrestle and were never headed.

A great opening win for the bunnies and one that the rest of the competition should take notice of.

South Sydney Rabbitohs 34
Manly Sea Eagles 8

Yes '3_Hats SSTID 2014', in round 2-2017 Souths–38 vs Sea Eagles-18 but in the second game Souths got thrashed by the Sea Eagles which was in round 9 Souths-08 vs Sea Eagles–46. This game was mainly won by the outstanding efforts of S. Burgess and the forwards and due to the ball getting out to the backs, which was largely due to Adam Doueihi's style of play. Walker, Inglis and Gagai got plenty of the ball and the wingers took every advantage of that and scored tries. So, lets not jump to any conclusions as the Bunnies have allot of work to do as their main problem is in the half's, Reno is lacking in many aspects of todays game while Adam Doueihi is there and waiting to do the job. Seibold has allot of things to sort out (as he pointed out in his post match PC in this regard) and the Rabbits have to be consistent and stop blaming anything and everything on why they are so inconsistent.

I always knew that Souths will beat Manly ( I tipped them in the Roars Tipping) they have a good recent record against them, while our boys were outstanding and absolutely trashed Manly, Adam Doueihi should be in this team as a permanent halfback! Yes I know and I admire Reno he can kick and is a better goal kicker but, Reno does not come up to scratch as a half in today’s game, he continually gets injured and has very few options and in most games goes missing! Hopefully our boys will continue in their marry way and into a path to better things, because and so far, their previous 2 games, they were absolutely thrashed by the Warriors and they were abit unlucky against the Panther. Their performance so far, evens out (no more excuses) and the next fixtures will be a test of how the Rabbitohs will do in 2018. Go the Bunnies!

Well done...Souths will win this or maybe they won’t is a bold tip indeed. When it comes from such an impartial source we really need to sit up and take notice.

I guess its true that Manly just can't perform when they cross south of the harbour bridge ? They were truly abysmal yesterday. Apart from Jurbo and young Parker keeping Inglis in check, the rest were way off the pace. DCE again reminded Queensland selectors just why they are right to refuse to pick him. He was atrocious yesterday and seemed to hand over the reins completely to young Croker to try to run the show ? After his early season form I thought DCE might have finally come of age with leadership consistency. Stupid me, even put him in my Supercoach team after his big game last week, and not only that , I made him my captain stripping the double points option away from the ever reliable Cam Smith !! What was I thinking ? Fools gold ? Age does not always bring with it wisdom, when it comes to footy ! Probably the only thing to remember with Manly is that they go much better at Brookie and they have the Raiders there next week. DCE will probably jhave a blinder, but he won't be in my team again.

I boldly said during the week that the Rabbitohs would win this game or go very close to winning. Our 2 games have been pretty good so far this season but we just faded a tad in the last 20 minutes of both games, long travel and the heat has taken its toll. Manly's first 2 games were first class! It is difficult after a massive win to back that up, many clubs over the years have lost the following week. Plus the bounce back factor for clubs that lose! There wasn't any complacency on Manly's part I just think the Rabbitohs ambushed them worse than Sitting Bull did to General Custer! Souths ran harder, hit harder and threw the ball around despite the rain and slippery conditions! Souths have plenty of strike weapons from 1 to 13, it was always the attitude in defence and 5th tackle options that would determine the result for the Rabbitohs. I was confident about the attack as the 7 trys and 34 points that could have easily been 42 with only 3 out of 7 conversions. that didn't surprise me at all but Manly being held to ONLY 6 points, that did surprise me. I have always said that other teams can score 3 or 4 trys, Souths will score more in most games! Souths have a History of performing well against Manly since 2013, sure not so in the past 2 seasons but we are always in the contest. There have been 2 blowouts to them and 4 blowouts to us though. Since 2013 Souths 8 wins and Manly 5 Souths 273 Points, Manly 232. I used from 2013 because every year since games were always played at both Home and Away and also including 2 Finals games! Previous to 2013

Despite everything else when I looked at the Souths lineup for the game I wasn't at all as confident as the punters. I've always said I'd like Alex Johnston to jump aboard the Eagles. A couple of their players are all time greats and plenty more of them are pretty handy. Manly also might be the worst wet weather team in the comp. They flogged us at a similar time last year and there were calls for the coach and half the team to be banished.

With all due respect to Manly, I thought this was coming for Souths. I offered last week that, when Inglis stays on they are a good team with big forwards and quick backs. That try against Panthers could the best of 2018 and when they click, this what they can do. Shout out to young Doueihi, good game and I can now see why he got a WC start for Lebanon.

Why? Because of that loss? 7 days is a long time in your world. Have you got another 10 coaches lined up for every loss this season?

The back three for Souths were outstanding. Inglis attracts a lot of defense allowing the wings to go in untouched a couple of times. His mere presence makes a difference to the South backline. The Burgess boys are all going very well and seem to have fixed their dropsies issues. Sam in particular in defense was outstanding. He has to be in the top 3 best forwards in the game right now and on form would be number 1. Manly just didn't turn up at all for that game. Turbo bros were their best and Api was outstanding in defence. Backline just didn't click at all.

For God's sake ! Listen, when they do a remake of the film One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, they won't have to go to Central Casting to find the inmates. All they'll have to do is wander down to Brookvale Oval and pick out the blokes wearing maroon and white. How do you go from 54-0 up one week to letting in seven tries the following? If a few more conversions had have gone over the score would have been 40 against them ! What, is the game plan down there to throw in the towel if the other side starts to fight back ? Some Manly players ( and he knows who he is) should read the mail and learn that big mouths don't win football games. You can't use both hands to fend off players while carrying the ball in your mouth. Fair dinkum. I'm going to call my grand daughters today and tell them to head down to Brookie and make themselves available for selection. At least they've got some grit, some determination, some will to win. It's a sad day when the fan calls for netball players to show grown men - on good dough - how to step up and play to win. I don't know if testosterone is a banned substance, but these blokes need to stick their heads in a bucket of it and start hoovering it down. They should line those blokes up in a straight line and roll the dice to see which number comes up, and then lay into him with a cricket bat to act as an example to the others. Put some fear in them. They're playing last year all over again. Inconsistent. And that is the coache's fault. Smash someone one week, go down crying like a little girl the week after. You'd reckon that after they had tasted the bitterness of defeat that they'd understand the importance of victory. Ahh, drive a man demented. All need a kick up the backside. I think this side is becoming bad for my health. Seven tries !
