REVEALED: The Socceroos squad you voted to send to Russia

By The Roar / Editor

One week ago, we asked you to pick your Socceroos squad for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup.

You’ve had your say, we’ve crunched the numbers and now it’s time to reveal the squad you, the Roarers, have elected to send to Russia in June.

Starting with the goalkeepers, and it was very clear who you thought the number one should be, with Mat Ryan being picked in 99 per cent of squads.

Just four votes separated Brad Jones from Danny Vukovic as the number two gloveman, but there was daylight between Vukovic and the next pick in Mitch Langerak (68% to 45%).

As far as the outfield players ago, a whopping eight names featured in more than 90% of your suggested.

Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy topped the lot, with 99 per cent of the vote, while Massimo Luongo, Tom Rogic, Mile Jedinak, Trent Sainsbury, Tomi Juric, Matthew Leckie and, surprisingly, Jackson Irvine also passed the 90 percentage point mark.

There was still considerable faith in veteran Tim Cahill, with 72 per cent of you having room for the 38-year-old striker in your squads, while 69 per cent of you were in favour of handing Daniel Arzani his Socceroos debut.

While Andrew Nabbout and James Troisi (narrowly) secured enough votes to finish in the top 20, their inclusions in the squad would have left the Socceroos perilously thin on defenders. As such, we made the executive decision to replace them with the two next-best-voted defenders beneath them in Josh Risdon and Matthew Spiranovic.

What do you think of the squad Roarers? Who’s lucky to be there? Who got robbed? What changes would you make?

Let us know in the comments!

I guess thay should replace Cahill with one of the multitude of Australian born strikers that dominate on the International arena?

No Spiranovic...no Wright (in squad, a good old school defender but if you've ever watched him closely...even in training....he has the first touch of an elephant and the ball close control of a machete)The team should comprise as much quality as possible...with some toughness. I'd go for an extended squad of... Ryan gk Karacic Rb Sainsbury Rcb Jurman Lcb Meredith Lb Jedinak Dm (c) Luongo Dm Rogic Am Leckie Juric Gersbach Mooy (great player out of form second half of season) Ikonimidis Kruse Vukovic McClaren Milligan Degenek Nabbout Behich Irvine Susnjar Cahill Langerack Arzani DeSilva Troisi Antonis Wright Risdon

Not convinced Mooy and Rogic can play in the same team.

Jamie Maclaren, who is actually playing, let alone scoring goals.

Why would Cahill be left out for a lesser light who can play longer minutes but contribute less to a game outcome? Surely a good coach can nurse him through the tournament, he's always come up with the goods when needed. Not like there's a Neymar being held out of the roos side.

If Cahill misses out, who replaces him?

Assuming Timmy carries the oranges, that forward line looks a bit light on for goals.

Great squad. I probably would have added Jason Davidson. But he needs to work on his game alot more. Id say this will be close to the squad picked later this month. Cahill goes to Russia for sure. Probably won't play at all. Maybe 10 mins.

Spiranovic is a laugh, Vukovic is rubbish and Cahill should be told now that's he's not going.

Spiranovic. That's hilarious. Cahill won't make it. You heard it first here.
