Richmond Tigers vs Adelaide Crows: AFL highlights, live scores, blog

By Liam Salter / Roar Guru

The home of football sees a 2017 grand final replay, as the Richmond Tigers take on the Adelaide Crows at the ‘G. Join The Roar for live commentary and scores from 7:50pm (AEST).

Richmond are a seriously great outfit this year. They’re first, with 11 wins, and coming off a comfortable victory against the Swans.

Adelaide were a very good team until this year. They’ve struggled, and while a brilliant win against West Coast last week saw them level their win-loss record at seven apiece, they’re still a fair way off the eight, and a win tonight is almost vital if they’re to play finals.

Of course, these two played in a grand final about nine months ago – you may have heard Richmond won. They also played in Round 2, a clash in which the Crows largely dominated. So, this clash will have a little extra spice to it, you’d think.

Adelaide have lost David Mackay to injury, but regain forward Tom Lynch. As for the Tigers, Reece Conca is out after last week’s horrific leg injury, and Nick Vlasutin to suspension. Callum Moore and Corey Ellis come into the squad.

Prediction
Adelaide are a great team when they get going, but then again Richmond are a great team all the time.

The Crows will challenge the premiers, but the Tigers will win.

Richmond by 18 points

It's come out nowhere their incredible fitness. I'm sure every team employs expensive fitness staff. Tigers must be doing something different to get different results. Maybe they had five preseasons in one.

No more the fact that Richmond just sit back and get easy goals on counter attack.

Really? I found it dreadfully boring and turned it off at halftime.

Slane, I have to admit I do too just not when they’re playing the Pies. They play good modern footy though and have fun doing it.

Just to script for the Tigers. Their fitness staff must be the best. Stay just ahead for three quarters then put the pedal down in the last.

Being a high scoring fast paced team annoys you?

Generally it's jealously, but it's like that in any sports...wanting the great ones to lose.

How many “two handed throws” is Richmond allowed to get away with? I don’t know. Perhaps you can enlighten us, genius.

MATCH REPORT Richmond have dominated an outclassed Adelaide outfit at the ‘G on a Friday night, winning by 47 points. The first term started off in Adelaide’s favour, with some early encouraging play developing into a four or five minute period of genuine dominance. The Crows accumulated a heap of inside 50s, but for little reward: one goal and three behinds. Richmond struck back with a couple of their own, and took a six point lead into the first break. Richmond’s class became evident in the second stanza, with the premiers largely controlling proceedings. Some inaccuracy affected them, as did a frustrating free that they gave away in the final moments that led to one of Adelaide’s three second quarter goals, but they were they’re dominant selves. And had a 22 point lead at the half. The third, perhaps unsurprisingly, saw the desperate Crows stage a determined rally. They booted three goals to Richmond’s two, and come three quarter time, they had a pulse: a sixteen point deficit at the final break, and memories of last week’s fight back. There would be no such fight-back at the ‘G. Richmond put their foot down, and strangled the Crows just about to the death. Another six majors for the Tigers, one late goal for Adelaide. The Tigers had their win - their sixteenth in a row. Lambert, Martin, Grigg and Prestia accumulated plenty of the ball in a string Tigers midfield, whilst Short took plenty of marks in a great defensive performance, and Riewoldt (2 majors) did the same forward. But, really, the whole Richmond team did plenty - as they’re beginning to make a habit off. Crouch, Laird and Sloane did plenty in good performances for the South Australians, whilst Doedee was brilliant in defence and Jenkins looked good in attack with a trio of goals. The Crows face Geelong next Thursday in Adelaide in a genuine do or die performance, whilst Richmond face GWS in Sydney. Richmond: 15.13 (103) Adelaide: 8.8 (56)
