Match preview:

The Brisbane Broncos have all but secured their top-eight spot, while the Gold Coast Titans remain a slim chance of qualifying for the finals. Join The Roar from 4:10pm (AEST) for live scores and coverage of their match.

The Titans have strung together a series of strong performances in recent weeks, with back-to-back wins over the Bulldogs at Belmore and the Wests Tigers at Leichhardt.

It has helped them to 11th position, level with the Raiders and Tigers on 14 points.

Star halfback Ashley Taylor and skipper Ryan James have been inspirational in leading their club from the front and should be available to play against the Broncos, provided James isn’t called into Brad Fittler’s NSW side.

The Titans will be without Maroons Jarrod Wallace and Jai Arrow in the middle of the park, however they still have enough experience to challenge a youthful Broncos outfit.

Brisbane have Corey Oates, James Roberts, Josh McGuire and Andrew McCullough absent due to State of Origin selection, prompting Wayne Bennett to call on Ipswich junior Jake Turpin to make his NRL debut, at hooker.

The Broncos currently sit in eighth and need a win to stay level with the Roosters and Sharks, both on 20 points and with the bye.

Brisbane have won four of their last five games, including a come-from-behind win over the Raiders last week. They will need to be switched on however as the Titans’ performances in recent weeks haven’t let teams come back in the second half, with Garth Brennan’s men putting in strong 80-minute displays.

The Southeast Queensland rivals have played in 24 matches since the Titans joined the NRL in 2007, Brisbane having won 18 to the Titans’ six. However, the younger brothers pulled off a stunning 26-18 victory in Round 4 of this year.

Prediction
The Gold Coast will hold on for a win over their big brother after a string of impressive victories.

Titans by 4.

Agree with the idea of being an ISC team only it won't be Redcliffe as they are very reliant on the Broncos. Put them in competition with each other and the Broncos take their stocks elsewhere and trade off their own brand to attract youngsters. Personally I rather see them come from the Ipswich region.

Rellum, I also thought that it was a "Leading Head", James Graham style of tackle on Staggs.

Hello Sham, you only had one game to watch yesterday & it was two Qld teams (although the Titans take in part of Northern NSW). Your call for a second team in Brisbane is based on diluting the Broncos influence & not on genuine expansion. The previous second team in Brisbane, remember the "Crushers" introduced by Arthurson & Quayle who were also partly responsible for Super League. The second team should come from an existing Qld Intrust Club that has facilities & administration on hand. Although I am a Broncos supporter & former season ticket holder I can see that a second team will eventually come about. Redcliffe Dolphins are in a good position to be the 2nd team. They are in a good area with population expansion all around them & could also include the Sunshine coast.

Most of our forwards can play big minutes and you need a bloke who can play in the backs on the bench these days to cover for concussion. Staggs should be that player for the rest of the season, although Turpin played very well today. Good signs for the Broncos, not just for this year, but for the seasons ahead with our talent coming through, especially in the forwards. Hopefully Paix is the player the club thinks he is.

Lol other codes like what AFL and Rugby union? Its is the same in those codes and neither team has done anything in years. Broncos are also 8th on the ladder champ... Let me guess your from NSW?

You do realise a very large percentage of the Broncos gets bought by other teams and they have been alot stronger from it. If anything you should be thanking the Broncos for gifting other teams with the great talent that is produced.

I am sure we are kicking penalties to give our forwards a rest. I would be happy to see Roberts and Stagg being our centres next year( all NSW though)

Turpin, Staggs and Pearson looked good in the event anyone gets injured or they opt to give any of their regular guys some time off.

Staggs looks a talent. Pearson ran with intent on the left wing. The forwards were fairly strong. The number 9 seemed to provide clean service (though I think he looks like he might break easily). Boyd looked like he might be running more freely. Good signs. Being a few points on the ladder clear might help with focus. But they still need to use the bench effectively when the others come back. It frustrates me endlessly when a bench spot is used for purely injury cover or someone only sees 5 minutes action.

Good: Form of Lodge (resign him now), Turpin (on the bench for the rest of the year as backup to Macca), Staggs (rate him a more potent centre than Kahu). First game of year where team has won by more than 9 points. Much better goal line defence. Bad: Kicking for penalty goals when up by 20. Pass mark only for the halves, if executed there plays more calmly - would have scored another easy 30 points.

Broncos are good at spotting young talent and remember they have Gillett, McGuire and McCullough to come back plus Roberts and Oates in the backs. If nikorima and Milford start to gel don't rule them out. Congratulations to Sam thaiday as he willhas rack up 300 games before end of season.

The result of this match highlights sad structural inequality. It is ridiculous that the Broncos are the only team in Brisbane. This level of unfair advantage is not matched in the other football codes in Australia. Surely in 2018 this can start to be addressed.

Him and Lodge (assuming they stay though I hear Both are all but signed) combined with the potential of Fifita and Haas coming through are a scary prospect. Lodge played a little too loose for my liking today though. Too much one handed crab walking doing an Andrew Fifita impersonation. Not needed with how we were rolling up the field.

I’m stunned by how quickly the warriors have crumbled. I honestly thought they were still a good win or two ahead of us and now they’re 8 with the worst +/- of the top 8. Gaps still a good 3 wins between the bottom 4(?) in the 8 and the next two in west’s and Raiders (who have a pretty handy +/-). Titans and knights are simply too far behind for mine. Raiders are the only side I’d give a chance of squeaking in if the Warriors continue on like this or one of the other 3 spontaneously combust. Whoever wins between them and Brisbane next week you’d think are guaranteed a spot.

Never really realised how good TPJ is. Last year I thought he was just a decent enough player that does a solid job. This year has had been our most important foward who has made a big impact in just about every game.

That concludes The Roar’s coverage of Gold Coast Titans vs Brisbane Broncos. The Broncos have come up with a big 34-point win over the Titans in the south Queensland derby. There is plenty of sporting action to come with the British GP, Wimbledon and FIFA World Cup semifinals over the coming days. Stay tuned for Scott Pryde's Round 18 talking points tonight and be sure to check in tomorrow morning for my NRL team of the week. Thanks for following along.
