Crusaders poach Australian schoolboy star

By The Roar / Editor

Schoolboy star Campbell Parata has promised his future to the Crusaders despite having played his most promising footy on Australian soil.

The New Zealand-born first-five eighth moved to Western Australia with his family but has set his sights on a return to his homeland.

“He’s a New Zealand kid and a lovely kid, and mum and dad are really nice people but at the end of the day they’re from New Zealand and always wanted to go back there,” said head of national XVs programmes Adrian Thompson.

“It’s a bit different to Nick Frost who chose the Crusaders ahead of the Waratahs, for example. It was more the fact that the kid just wants to go home.”

Thompson said that he and Junior Wallabies coach Jason Gilmore had been in touch with Parata in April.

“We touched base with them and got them down to watch the 20s final and everything, but they came back to us and just said that they were keen to go home,” he said.

Piru, You forgot steel fixing too. John in appears old mate is unaware of the fact that despite the previous pathway changing, there is still a pathway by various means, and is the type of person who just assumes if he is oblivious to something, it doesn't exist. Ultimately you and I know that the path to citizenship is now just based around the skills register, etc. which has meant being from NZ doesn't just offer an automatic pathway to citizenship now, but it's a merit based pathway.

Exactly! And if there were none here, then, well I wouldn't have been born here, and I'd have no one to watch rugby with!

That doesn't mean he doesn't have a pathway to citizenship. A mate of mine arrived here in 2006 and got his PR last year. Your comment about the government not wanting NZ'ers here is in direct contradiction with the facts. There is approximately 600,000+ New Zealanders living in Australia. That's a huge amount considering that the government doesn't want them here ???

All NZers, sent back to NZ at anytime? Phew, finally we may have a solution to the (ahem) immigration problem Australia has. Has anyone emailed Senator Fraser Anning to let him know? Problem solved.

In which case he needs to just follow the other paths as shown. He is not ineligible other than that he personally hasn't met the specific requirements. He just needs to acquire PR first. He may personally be unable to. But that's due to his specific circumstances rather than being an NZ citizen. Kiwis are not marginalized in this regard. We are now just applying similar rules to other nations in order for NZ citizens to get PR and citizenship. The exception being kiwis can get an SCV to enable them to live and work in Australia as long as they like. All NZ citizens are eligible to get Australian citizenship if they meet the requirements that all other immigrants are required to. The only "ineligibility" is that you need to be a permanent resident first to get citizenship. Nothing prevents NZ citizens from applying for PR, by virtue of their citizenship.

It's been well publicised that Crow is not currently eligible for an Aus passport (look it up) because he wasn't born there and after 2001 he spent too much time outside of Aus acting... You need to look at the practical application of the rules - kiwis are a marginalised group in Aus.

He's a kiwi and his parents returned to NZ and the Aus government doesn't want NZers in the country. Can't believe you need to be reminded of that.

John - NZ citizens arriving in Aus after 2002 have "Temporary Residency" which can be revoked at any time and has no way to lead to citizenship.

Since he could walk and talk hes always wanted to play for the All Blacks. His grandfather was a well respected rugby fly half way back that taught ex All Black players how to truly play the game but never made squad as he had serious injury at All Black trials where he was going to be All Blacks fly half ahead of eventual no.10 at the time but we all moved over to WA for work and he just grew up learning the game and made the scholarships in QLD and now hes at the age of professional rugby hes finally come to that dream of going home to play for NZ rugby at Super level and eventually All Blacks. I should know it's the nephew hahaha. GO HARD NEFF

No need. Already outlined: Get PR https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Visasupport/Pages/an-additional-pathway.aspx Then get Citizenship https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/citi/pathways-processes/application-options/new-zealand-citizen/new-zealand-citizens-living-in-australia It's more difficult now than in the past but it's blatantly untrue that you cannot get citizenship if you are a New Zealander. In fact Crowe may even satisfy this requirement to apply for citizenship depending on what his work was at the time (in the US or in Australia): have been in Australia on 26 February 2001 on a SCV, or if absent on that day have spent a period/periods totalling 12 months in Australia on an SCV in the two years immediately before 26 February 2001, or

Perhaps you should advise Russell Crow and the thousands of NZers in Aus just how to go about that.

Even less surprising when you consider each NRL team can have upto 6 junior development players each contracted for upto $60k outside the salary cap.

Tupou wasn't poached. Tupou left because he demanded the NZRU give him a contract or he'll sign with the ARU. The NZRU let him go because they asked him to continue with the NZ secondary schools rugby programme and he said see yous later and the NZRU said, 'chur catch you later'.
