Izack Rodda re-signs with Reds and Wallabies

Wallabies lock Izack Rodda has signed a two-year contract extension with Rugby Australia and the Queensland Reds.

Emerging Wallabies lock Izack Rodda has re-signed with Rugby Australia and the Queensland Reds for two more seasons.

Rodda, who has won 10 caps and started in the last eight Tests, is now tied to Australia and the Reds until the end of the 2020 campaign.

The NSW Waratahs were reportedly interested in the 22-year-old second rower, who only broke into the Test team just over 12 months ago.

In a Rugby Australia press release, the Queensland native said he was “very excited to re-sign for two more years”.

“I’m really looking forward to sticking with the Reds and the Wallabies.

“The Reds gave me my first crack and my first contract. I was one year out of school and I haven’t really looked back since.

“It’s an unreal program that’s been growing each year and now that Thorny is the boss, it’s just going in the right direction as a club and all the players want to be there to keep growing that great vibe.

“Honestly, if you had asked me three years ago where I would be, I wouldn’t have said here with the Wallabies.

“It’s come very fast but I have loved every moment of it. In saying that, I still need to work very hard to keep my spot. There’s a lot of competition in my position coming through both the Reds and the Wallabies so it’s going to keep me on my toes.

“I want to try get in the World Cup squad then cement a spot in the 23, and hopefully win a World Cup,” he said.

Glad Rodda is re-signed and although I'd have loved him at the Tahs I make zero complaint that he has stayed put at the Reds. Think it is imperative that the Tahs look to get Skelton back, don't think his contract expires before the end of the next Super season but longer term he'd add a bit to what was a lightweight pack this season. If I put together my wishlist pack for 2020 for the Tahs I'd love to see: Johnson-Holmes Latu Vui Skelton Frost Dempsey Hooper Holloway Could be mighty tasty. Think that stacks up well against a Reds pack of: Smith Paenga-Amosa Tupou Tui Rodda Scott-Young Wright Timu

Yeah re-watching the first half, he had a strong physical presence, winning contact most times, against the big SAffa forwards. And as we've seen his lineout work is pretty good too.

Good on him. He's actually from Evans Head. Local club there are very proud of him. Apparently he comes back at least once a season to work with youngsters.

I didn't know much about Rodda prior to the international season, but I think he's been pretty good - particularly in the lineouts. Good news

Fantastic news. Tie up Coleman, Arnold and Tui as well, and the lock position is well and truly covered for 5-8 years. And that's not including Skelton and Philip.
