Have you tried to work out what kind of a backline Hawthorn will put together? Frawley has been a borderline AFL since he got to Hawthorn, Stratton is their most reliable but not a giant and beginning to show the fragility of age. The same with Birchall. The brilliant but undersized and erratic Sicily is their classiest...the rest are dime a dozen in and out types. A classy, but slow and fragile midfield nucleus, no defense and a forward line that relies an two reliable but undersized players and an erratic Wingard and a very moderate ruck.

My goodness! Did you watch him when he said that or are you doing the Chinese Whispers thing? In true Belly style, he was so tongue in cheek. He even grinned as he was saying it. Put him on 'Say that again" and you'll see. It only works as a criticism if he was stern faced as he said it. He has that great Aussie self-deprecating humour. Enjoy your bitterness, Stix.

Hit the nail on the head re Wingard. Is a very lazy and unmotivated player who ended up getting the sulks after a very harsh end of season exit interview. Give me Silk or Cyril over Wingard every day of the week. Clarko has his a task to change Chads attitude and poor work ethic - he's a me player who constantly refused to toe the "team first" line at Port, and I can't see that changing just because of a change of clubs

I agree Dalgety. The Hawks have given their fans more joy than anyone in the AFL era even though the Eagles are now closing on their 5 AFL era flags. Their top 4 placement this season, then predictable straight sets exit told us what exactly about their 2019? Their brutal handling of a really good player in Burton IMO says they are still trying to squeeze in another flag before they really hit the wall. I suspect their 2018 performance was all down to Clarkson and we will see them slide as even Clarko can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear in 2019. Wingard is no Burgoyne or Cyril and will be a showreel only without the consistency of either.

Hawthorn will be a fascinating case study from this trade period. It's like they given up on buying new stuff and instead relying on driving around in their ute and grabbing old broken bits and bobs put out for the kerbside collection and hoping to turn it into something of worth.

If the Suns want pick 1 then offer picks 2,3 and 6, or 2,3 and next years first rounder, otherwise no deal. Only way Carlton should let Walsh go.

Melbourne traded J.Hogan and as a result received - S.May, K.Kolodjashnij and Pick 23. Good result for Melbourne but a better result for Freo getting Hogan (only 6+23). Jetta-May-Lever is a seriously strong line. Who will Melbourne play as the second tall O.McDonald or S.Frost? Hibberd/Salem/Kolodjashnij/Hunt - really good deep backline just as long as Goodwin learns from his season long mistake of playing turnover machine J.Lewis deep. Lewis is still a good player up the field just hopeless in the back 50 - the coaches fault not his playing him there.

Carlton trade pick 1 to the Suns for pick 3+6. Carlton trade pick 3 and 2x 2019 R3 picks (carl + adel) to Port for pick 5+10. Carlton Picks 5,6,10. or pick 1 (Walsh) and keep 2 2019 round 3 picks. What should Carlton do?

"It would be a feather in my cap" will go down as the most ridiculous comment of 2018 (in AFL land). Luke Darcy "say that again" is replayed over and over and so will Bells quote and 'due diligence' . Bell even admitted Wednesday that it was a really poor choice of words. Once he started doing his job and doing what was best for the Dockers and not stroking his own ego he got the job done great. Hogan is a great get, Lobb is good and pick 14 left over has worked out well.

As a Bombers fan I'm relieved the Shiel deal got done, but it would have been good to have had a crack at Ben Long or Tom Liberatore once Jack Martin was off the agenda. Bombers will miss Colyer's pace but he probably wasn't in the Bombers best 22 next year, so hopefully he'll get more game time with the Dockers.

I'm not a dockers supporter but I really think Peter Bell did a good job. Seems like he'd be difficult to work with but if I was a docker supporter i'd be fairly chuffed with an all around swell trade period.

Bit of a steal but seems the Dogs didn't rate him?

Make Dogs Great Again

I’m disgusted, Surely Dogs could’ve done better than pick 75 for Roughead, especially considering the Pies have four picks in Round three, 41,44,51,57. I would of thought one of either 51 or 57 would of sufficed!
