Premiers West Coast de-list six players

By News / Wire

AFL premiers West Coast have delisted six players as part of their end-of-season clean out, with Luke Partington the unluckiest of the lot.

Partington, selected with pick No.28 in the 2015 national draft, and Malcolm Karpany were the biggest names to be delisted.

Tarir Bayok, Ryan Burrows, Callan England and Tony Olango were also shown the door, while Mark LeCras and Eric Mackenzie have retired.

With Scott Lycett securing a move to Port Adelaide via free agency, it means the Eagles will make nine list changes all up from their premiership season.

Partington notched six games for the Eagles last year, including the elimination final win over Port Adelaide.

The 21-year-old tied for East Perth’s best and fairest award in the WAFL this season, but it wasn’t enough to save him.

Karpany booted three goals from 17 disposals in the Round 15 win over the Bulldogs last year.

But the No.31 pick from the 2013 draft battled a knee problem this year and could only manage 10 WAFL games.

Olango hit the headlines for the wrong reasons in August when it was revealed he was facing an assault charge stemming from an alleged incident in Darwin that occurred the day before he was drafted last November.

His delisting leaves West Coast light on for ruck depth.

Lycett’s departure and Nic Naitanui’s knee injury means West Coast need to bolster their ruck stocks.

The Eagles traded in former Saints ruckman Tom Hickey, and they could throw former Docker Zac Clarke a lifeline after the big man’s star showings in the WAFL this year.

That seems to be the over-riding factor. Personally ,I'd like to see Zac Clarke at a professional club

A lot will have to do with whose contract was up and whose wasn't.

Partingtons disposal is average. Think the only reason Mutimer and Allen were kept is because they are contracted for next year.

I'm very surprised that Matthew Allen was kept on it. We are the most overstocked club in the comp for tall forwards with Kennedy Darling Brander Waterman O. Allen M. Allen with McInnes and Vardy can fill the hole. Partington I'm a big fan of and I believe he deserves another chance Matty Allen plays 3 or 4 good games in the wafl in 3 years and is kept on? Partington is a wafl ball magnet and is delisted? McInnes what's your roarers thoughts on him?

I believe Partington is from the Adelaide region so he may get a lifeline over there. I am surprised he was let go and Mutimer kept on. Fraser McInnes is another enigma. drafted twice by the Eagles and only played a handful of games even when we were light on for ruck work. Don't understand why we keep him. Mathew Allen is another who should either be given a shot in the forward line or let go. I don't think West Coast can go to wrong recruiting Josh Deluca from the Subi footy club , he was delisted by freo but this kid is as hard as nails and a gun. he'd be a great help for the boys in the middle

So what's the go with Partington? A few of the weagles fans on this place have talked him up. Mistake by the Eagles to let him go, or is he not coming along as they would have liked? maybe he'll wind up at the gold coast in a year or two, mature aged players from WA seem to be their stock in trade at the moment
