AFL confirms score review bunker for finals

By Roger Vaughan / Wire

The AFL is in a race against time to build a purpose-built review centre in time for this year’s finals series, with not even the location confirmed.

The AFL plans to have a review centre in place for this season’s finals series, even though they are yet to determine the location.

The centre will not only coordinate their controversial score reviews, but also handle match review incidents, umpire coaching and help with player medical issues such as concussions.

“The game needs it,” said AFL football boss Steve Hocking.

Yes, Gil doesn't think it is 'unfair' because Geelong play two 'home' games a year at the MCG (that is forced upon Geelong by the AFL). https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-07-18/whats-right-is-inconvenient-scott-whacks-gill-over-cats-mcg-finals-talk

Well Gerard Whately has been pushing the hardest for this type of thing. Who was the brainiest person in footy we can name it after. I agree what they do and don't review is priority one. Giving the players (captains) one or two reviews per quarter is the most popular idea from my listenings. Sure takes the pressure off the umpires. They are asking for names soo.. It could be called Second Lookhouse or Close Inspection.

We will still have part-time umpires but thankfully we will have the ability to see their mistakes from every angle in super dooper slow-mo.

If the ladder is: 1.Geelong. 2.Eagles. 3.Collingwood. 4.Brisbane. 5.GWS. 6.Adelaide. 7.Richmond. 8.Essendon. And a few ladder predictors have that order, doesn’t the AFL mandate that a final must be played at the MCG? Which one?

In NRL they have one bunker for any game. That in NSW even works for game in NZ

One of AFL’s strengths is that it is a free and open game , not bogged down by rugby union-like technicalities. And now the AFL goes down this path!?!? They are digging a hole here they will not get out of. And there will still be mistakes. It will not get them anywhere!!!

Let’s say that Brisbane finish fourth, lose to Geelong at GMBHA which therefore needs a bunker, but Brisbane gets a home final for the next game. The Gabba needs a bunker. GWS finish fifth, get a home final. Spotless gets a bunker. Eagles finish second, play the Pies. Perth Oval gets a bunker. Adelaide finish sixth, Adelaide Oval gets a bunker. The only place without a bunker for the first week of finals is the MCG… That’s five bunkers for the first week alone..

Good god no. The AFL need to take (another) leaf out of the NFL's book and set down hard rules on what is and isn't reviewable.

Can we also have a review bin for stupid field umpiring decisions?
