Gold Coast player facing four-year ban after testing positive to cocaine on game day

By The Roar / Editor

Gold Coast forward Brayden Crossley is facing a four-year suspension from the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) after he tested positive to cocaine prior to a NEAFL game.

ASADA considers cocaine to be a performance-enhancing substance when detected during the season, with Crossley provisionally suspended until the ASADA case takes place.

Crossley, who is only 19, will “vigorously defend himself” according to The Courier-Mail.

The test occurred in May of this year. Crossley played ten games for Gold Coast last season after being taken with the 52nd pick of the 2017 draft. He has not played in the AFL this season.

The Suns issued the following statement via their website.

“We have been notified that Brayden Crossley has received notification of an adverse analytical finding from a recent test by ASADA under the Australian Football Anti-Doping Code.

“The club supports the role of ASADA and will fully cooperate during this process.

“We are continuing to provide Brayden with wellbeing support and want to stress that it would be inappropriate to pre-empt the outcome of the matter at this time.

“Brayden has sought independent legal advice to assist him going forward.

“The club’s public commentary on this issue is governed by strict protocols, and as such under the Australian Football Anti-Doping Code we are unable to provide any further commentary whilst the process unfolds.”

I still make time for going to the footy. Only thing that keeps me sane sometimes. But no time for reading and commenting much.

Selling house, moving, working 6 or 7 days a week and various other things I won’t get into here but suffice it to say I have had little free time lately

Thought you’d been a bit quiet Cat. Fire up for the QF in two weeks? The side in my blood playing my second best side. If we get knocked out I’ll be riding the Cats to kick out Richmond and West Coast en route to the whole thing. Should be an epic final. Be close, real close I reckon.

ASADA doesn't do three strikes. This is an in-competition performance enhancing drug test failure. This is not a recreational drug strike.

So, is this his 3rd strike? Or does that only apply to AFL players?

The punishment should fit the crime: give him a 10 year contract with the Suns. Or does that fit into the 'cruel and unusual' category?

The Gold Coast used to be a nice family friendly place before the Suns came to town.
