Perth rugby fans will get another dose of Trans-Tasman rivalry after it was announced that the All Blacks will play the Wallabies at Optus Stadium next year, with the Springboks also to play in Western Australia.
The Wallabies caused a major boilover in the first ever Bledisloe Cup Test played in Perth when they notched a 47-26 victory in August last year.
A record 61,241 fans attended that match, and another sellout is expected for the 2021 clash, with a date yet to be confirmed.
It’s believed the WA State Government was able to swoop on the Bledisloe Cup fixture after talks between Rugby Australia and the South Australian Government broke down.
Optus Stadium will host another important match this year when world champions South Africa take on the Wallabies on August 29.
The Springboks won the World Cup in November when they beat England 32-12.

If you exclude 1st and 2nd generation immigrants from what you define as the population of Perth, you will exclude the majority.

Why Perth was dropped from Super Rugby remains a secret - fan base not strong enough - Hmmmmm Players health too far to travel - Hmmmmmm It's a joke but we're not laughing....

Like always. Almost all lies. From the 2017FY to 2018FY annual reports Corporate expenditure dropped from $17M to $15M and player payments from $25M to $16.7M, which is below 2016 levels. Corporate expenditure has increased by approximately 6% since the 2015 figure.

Do it every year for 20 years and see how many people make sure they don’t miss it... They got less than 20k to their two previous tests in Perth.

Weeeak excuse lol. If Perth can fill 60k surely Sydney can manage an extra 20k out of the extra 2.5+ million.

Yes, that's the point: they're still kiwi migrants and NOT WA born and bred locals. There's ONLY ONE native West Aussie I've ever met who liked and played rugby union here. Literally everyone else I know in Perth who was involved was either kiwi, South African, British, Irish. Very rare in WA to get actual West Aussies interested in rugby union without being a direct migrant, or an offspring of migrants (like yourself) who are pushed into it.

Exactly! Seems like a bitter pill to swallow that Perth is getting big rugby crowds with about 3million less people than Sydney. Even the Force crowds were great per capita compared to the Waratahs on many occasions.

Plenty of local kiwis. My parents are from NZ but have lived in WA for 35 years. They are WA locals who love Rugby and there are plenty more.

Is there a cover up? Maybe check out how much taxpayer money was used to build Optus Stadium. How dare they build a world class facility for the people.

I thought Sydney was the the heartland of Australian Rugby? And they cannot fill their stadium for a Bled anymore? Same for Brisbane. But people are chirping on here about Perth

The money saved argument disappears quickly when you dig a deeper and consider the bigger picture. The money "saved" from axing were squandered on a few players like Folau, Hooper, Genia, Pocock. Cooper, Beale and Foley and additional head office cost - at the cost of having another team in Superugby. What sustainable benefit did axing the Force provide - other than attracting Forrest to sponsor the Force? it is damming that RA financial position remains desperate despite axing the Force. More significant is the role that the farce used to axing of the Force and other administrative dramas played in Foxtel's reluctance to commit to Australia rugby. Surely Foxtel noticed that spectators and viewers switched off annoyed with the administration, they would have noticed the negative press coverage and reflected on their association with a drama filed RA and how that reflect on their reputation and profitability. With WA subscribers ditching Foxtel after WF axing, Forrest backing a competitive competition that will surely dilutes the value of broadcasting Superugby - they are prepared to walk away. By winning a battle against the Force, RA have lost the war? A few million saved means nothing if you cut your revenue by tens of millions every year. There are also those that had to find evidence of som "improvement" in Superugby performance. They looked at statistics to make a case. What is undisputable is that even if there was an improvement in Superugby it did not translate to the national team's performance. The Wallabies had their worst ever RWC campaign, ended up with our lowest ranking in World Rugby ever, sacked the coaching team, the chairman was forced to resign and he exodus of players still in their prime accelerated. The vote of no-confidence in RA administraton is overwhelming and coming from all stakeholders: players, spectators, journalists, viewers, sponsors and broadcasters.

As a Perth resident, the population has grown significantly. Western Australians love their Rugby. Back 10 years ago, Bledisloe Cup was played on the east coast, because Subiaco Oval was not high enough to host the Trans Tasman Rivals. On the other hand, Wallabies haven't played in Adelaide since 2003 during the RWC where AUstralia thrashed Namibia 142-0.

Unless you are the Victorian government, then it is part of the deal to save the Rebels and no-one else get a chance to bid against you.

Page 83 of today's West Australian and I quote an article by Nick Taylor: "The Government (WA) paid $5 million for the previous Bledisloe match but it is understood the Mandela Plate match has cost around $1 million....."

Exactly, as a Perth resident I knew that Bledisloe Cup would sell out easily at the 60,000 stadium not because of West Aussies, but because of the huge amount of kiwis migrating here in the past 25 years. Adelaide seems to have avoided getting the kiwi migrants like Perth has.

Exactly TWAS. As a Perth resident I said the Perth Bledisloe Cup would sell out in no time when I first heard it announced due to the flood of kiwis that live here now. There's huge amounts of South Africans here too. Adelaide seems to be the one mainland state capital that hasn't been flooded with kiwis for whatever reason, due to the economy of SA I guess?
