The ten players your team can least afford to lose: Port Adelaide Power

By Doran Smith / Roar Guru

The Port Adelaide Power may have only finished tenth in the 2019 season, but they won half of their games, 11 to be exact.

The Power will be looking to improve in season 2020 and make the finals. It was a good experience figuring out the ten players that the Power could least afford to lose in season 2020.

10. Oliver Wines
Wines is the vice-captain of Port Adelaide for season 2020. He averaged 25.25 disposals per game, but unfortunately, he was only able to play 12 games due to injury in 2019. He missed Round 1 due to a shoulder injury, but he’ll be back.

9. Dan Houston
Houston finished in third place in the 2019 Port Adelaide Power’s best and fairest. Houston missed just one game in 2019 and averaged over 20 disposals.

8. Tom Jonas
Jonas is Captain of the Port Adelaide Power in season 2020. Jonas finished equal fifth in the Power’s 2019 best and fairest. He finished in the top five despite missing four games.

7. Darcy Byrne-Jones
Byrne-Jones finished in second place in the 2019 Port Adelaide Power’s best and fairest. Byrne-Jones averaged over 20 disposals a game, featuring in all 22 of the Power’s games.

6. Robbie Gray
Gray kicked 24 goals in 19 games in 2019 and averaged 22.11 disposals in the same season. Gray still managed to finish tenth in the best and fairest despite missing three games.

5. Ryan Burton
Burton finished eighth in the 2019 Port Adelaide Power’s best and fairest despite missing six of the 22 games that the Power played in. He averaged 19.62 disposals per game and has the capability to provide run out of the defence.

4. Scott Lycett
Lycett averaged an impressive 25.67 hitouts per game in 2019. Expect Lycett to be the number one ruckman for the Port Adelaide Power in season 2020 and to benefit from playing that role on a permanent basis.

3. Connor Rozee
Rozee is an exciting young player with plenty of potential. Rozee finished fourth in the 2019 Port Adelaide Power’s best and fairest. He kicked the most goals of any Port Adelaide Power player amassing 29 goals and managing to play all 22 games.

2. Tom Rockliff
Rockliff is a pivotal part of the Port Adelaide Power midfield. Rockliff played 18 games in 2019 averaging 28.44 disposals per game. He finished in seventh in the 2019 Port Adelaide Power best and fairest despite missing four games, which shows what a quality player Rockliff is.

1. Travis Boak
Boak won the 2019 Port Adelaide Power’s best and fairest. Boak was selected in the 2019 AFL All-Australian squad of 40. He averaged 30.33 disposals per game in season 2020.

will be tough fred especially with reduced squads next year, could be a couple of retirements that would ease the pain, will give it a crack with a crystal ball type scenario 1-westoff-retirement 2-wines-will play at carlton next year/trade him 3-atley-have to many inside mids, even with injuries he didn't get a run/trade him 4 sam mayes-just a depth player Williams/Bergmann will get a run before him/trade/delist 5 Sutcliffe-just a depth player as above /delist 6 Frederick-delist 7 woodcock-cant see him ahead of butters/rozee/Williams or Bergmann/delist 8-tobin cox-as above /delist 9-wiley buzza -wont be needed if Dixon stays on park and resigns /trade/ delist 10 depending on form or development grudy, Mackenzie would be anxious on list sizes feel sorry for a lot of these players as they wont be playing proper competive footy against opposition with magpies out of sanfl

Big fan of Hartlett. Is scary how good Rozee could be.

Absolutely agree with you about Big Charlie. He's the only Port player I fear. He's hard at the player and ball, a great contested mark and can kick a goal. Small forwards must walk taller with this guy down there, too!

He’d probably still beat Matt crouch in a foot race. Be like two turtles going at it.

I'd take Wines for Adelaide where he may even prove to be Vintage. Too good for the Port palete?

It would be more insightful to see lists of the 10 least valuable players for each team, and why they are surplus to requirement at the club's.

Thanks Brendan, yes this is a better reflection, though I would probably slip in Houston and/or Amon as the outside speed. Hammer is awesome but Burton (and even Watts) can act as that excellent ball user off half hack. It might seem rough on Lycett, but Ladhams will be good enough with a bit more experience.

Wines we could lose, we've got SPP and Drew to cover and SPP is a better player than him, Lycett, although I like him has a good backup in Ladhams and the same for Burton, we have cover on the halfback if he goes down. Big Charlie is #1, we lose him then it's season over. 1. Charlie - The most important man on the team 2. Gray - Is Robbie Gray 3. Boak - Is trav Boak 4. Jonas - Captain 5. Rozee - The new Robbie Gray 6. Rockliff - Smart, composed 7. DBJ - 2nd in last year's B&F, great back pocket 8. Westhoff - Plays everywhere, plugs all holes 9. Clurey - Big and Fast, takes the most agile key forward 10. Hartlett - Heart and Soul, toughest guy in the team and kicks 70m
