The ten players your team can least afford to lose: Richmond Tigers

By Doran Smith / Roar Guru

The Richmond Tigers won the premiership in 2019, which made it a tough task to decide the ten players that they can least afford to lose.

10. Kane Lambert
Lambert finished in eighth place in the 2019 Richmond Tigers’ best and fairest and is an underrated player who has the capability to play on a half-forward flank or in the midfield.

9. Tom J. Lynch
Lynch finished fifth in the Richmond Tigers’ best and fairest and kicked an impressive 63 goals in 2019. He and Jack Riewoldt complement each other well in the forward line.

8. Nick Vlastuin
Vlastuin is a key part of the Richmond Tigers’ back six. Vlastuin finished fourth in the 2019 Richmond Tigers’ best and fairest, which is a key indicator of his importance.

7. Bachar Houli
Houli was named on a halfback flank in the 2019 AFL All-Australian team. Houli averaged the most disposals of any Tigers player in 2019, averaging 27.82 disposals. He finished seventh in the Richmond Tigers’ best and fairest.

6. Trent Cotchin
Cotchin is the captain of the Richmond Tigers and a fantastic leader. Cotchin played 14 games in season 2020 with an average of under 20 disposals per game, but he reads the game extremely well despite the fact he didn’t amass a lot of disposals.

5. Jack Riewoldt
Riewoldt showed his value to the Richmond Tigers team when he kicked five goals in the AFL grand final in 2019. Riewoldt played just 13 games in the 2019 season, averaging nearly two goals per game. He is an important part of their structure and has been named vice-captain in season 2020.

4. Shane Edwards
Edwards finished second in the Richmond Tigers’ 2019 best and fairest which is a clear indicator that Edwards is a pivotal player.

3. Dylan Grimes
Grimes was named in the back pocket of the 2019 AFL All-Australian team. Grimes is a versatile defender who has the capability to play on a key small or tall forward from the opposition.

2. Dion Prestia
Prestia is a pivotal part of the Richmond Tigers’ midfield. Prestia was named in the 2019 All-Australian squad of 40. He won the 2019 Richmond Tigers’ best and fairest.

1. Dustin Martin
Martin is a match-winner and was a part of the 2019 AFL All-Australian squad of 40. He managed to kick 32 goals in 23 games and doesn’t have to amass a lot of disposals to have an impact on the contest.

Yeah, still so upset. You are still excited by the Eagles extra 8 wins over Richmond thanks to a run of wins in the early 1990s. Yep, in the last 25 years the tally is even. Shame Eagles couldn't beat the Tigers in round 22 last year (or lowly Hawthorn at home the following week) or they might have had another Premiership.

It's the Eagles that can only dream of catching the Tigers 12 Premierships or of being the biggest Club in the land like Richmond is. The Eagles have just 4 Premierships and at least 2 of them tainted by drugs! You really need to see someone about your PTPD, Matches!

State league rubbish doesn’t count cellar dweller.  In case you hadn't noticed the Tigers are the current Premiers!  You've got serious PTPD (Post Tigers Premiership Disorder) Oh and the last time we played the Eagles we gave you a 6 goal head start and still smashed you so the Tigers own the Eagles, buddy. Like I said, try winning a Premiership that's not tainted by drugs. Bit hard to when it's part of the Eagles culture I suppose.

State league rubbish doesn't count cellar dweller. 2 AFL premierships in 30 years is where you sit.

As I said, classic case of PTPD (Post Tigers Premiership Disorder)...and it looks like you have a serious case. Richmond - 12 Flags (currently reigning Premier & best Team in the AFL). WCE - 4 Flags (at least 2 with asterisks due to drugs and currently embroiled in another drug scandal) If Eagles ever get close to Tigers Premiership tally, then you'll have something to chat about until then it's just hot air!

From your childish comments above it's unlikely you can follow even simple facts but try - if you want some "reality. Richmond have only won 5 games in Perth against the Eagles in their miserable history. That's less than Eagles grand finals! (We're talking AFL not state league rubbish) Head to head its 26 to 18 at all venues. And at the MCG it's 8 each. WCE own Richmond! now back to your mindless use of the vernacular in the land of make believe.

Another one with PTPD (Post Tiger Premiership Disorder!) I bet he also plays the Richmond Team Song over and over and over whilst blindfolded on a bus. I can see a few other regular Posters on the Bus with him!

Would be nice if the Eagles could win a Premiership drug free.

Both are greats of their clubs. I love Jack. His transformation as a mark-kick-goal forward, to a complete (unselfish, do the 1 percenters) all round Player has been remarkable. Oscar Allen is a beauty. I think both clubs lists and future prospects are good.

Rave on. Footy aside, I’m assuming the Wildcats are a basketball team we should somehow all care about. Let me guess, the one & only team in Western Australia? Yet they still manage to do okay most years. Astonishing!

Sorry, by listing ages at the end of next year 2021, I may have confused the issue. We shouldn't compare Richmond with the Eagles though. WCE have stayed in contention through planning and the WA sporting lifestyle for decades (like the Wildcats). Richmond are perennial cellar dwellers who poked their heads up for a burst on the back of ridiculous fixture advantages. If they stay with the Eagles over the next 20 years, that would be something to talk about.
