Changes incoming for Port heading into Round 7

By Adam Schultz / Roar Rookie

Heading into Round 7 Port Adelaide will be forced into making two changes.

Cam Sutcliffe (hamstring) and Brad Ebert (suspension) will both be unavailable when they face Carlton on Sunday.

Here is a look at who could come into the side.

Xavier Duursma
Duursma has put together a good week of training since his hamstring injury a couple weeks ago. He will however need to train without limitations when the club has their final session on Friday.

If he passes then I expect him to be one of the ins for Sunday.

Tom Rockliff
Dropped from the side last week due to his performances, especially against Brisbane and with Port’s midfield playing reasonably well against GWS, I just do not feel there is a spot for him at this stage.

With Ollie Wines and Sam Powell-Pepper already in the midfield group, adding Rockliff would simply slow it down too much.

Is there another position he could play? At this stage probably not, so Rockliff might have to wait another week before returning to the Power’s engine room.

Jarrod Lienert
He was a little bit unlucky not to be included last week, with Cam Sutcliffe instead getting the nod to replace Riley Bonner. Always on the fringes of the 22 each week, he is another who realistically could slot in across half back.

Mitch Georgiades
He is one of my picks to get the chance at AFL level again, taking over Brad Ebert’s half forward role. Georgiades impressed in his debut against the Gold Coast in Round 1, kicking two goals from his 11 disposals but it was his high flying that caught the eye. He is one I would like to see come in this week.

From all reports there are several Power players pushing hard in training, putting pressure on the selected 22 to perform each week with youngster Miles Bergman along with Sam Mayes having impressed on the track in this week.

However, Riley Bonner may have to sit out this week again, although it would not surprise me to see Ken Hinkley pull the trigger and bring him back after only one week out of the AFL side.

Changes are coming this round with Port to announce the squad of 26 on Thursday night before trimming that to 22 on Friday, but just who will get the nod?

Knowing the Port Adelaide coaching group, your guess is as good as mine.

Hmmmm, another head scratcher out of the blue selection. I hope he plays well though, so hard to judge these selections with no form to go on.

Hinkley said Mayes is starting. Excited to see his first game for the club.

I just don't think Jack cares enough, his two way running is possibly the worst in the comp.

I'd be happy with that.

I think it will be an easy Rockliff, Duursma IN, Sutcliffe, Ebert OUT.

I think I mentioned it a little earlier in the year, but I'd really like to see Jack Watts on the field again. At the start of last season he was showing some real promise as a defender. I think he deserves another crack at it.

I stand corrected

Burton played half back to allow Houston to move through the midfield rotations - Sutcliffe primarily played a defensive forward role on Whitfield until he done his hammy

Actually, after a brief start, I think Sutcliffe went back and Houston spent more time in the midfield. If correct, Houston replaced Rocky. I would like to see Lienert for Sutcliffe if that is the case

Not sure we could go in with all of Dixon, Marshall, Hoff and Georgiadis - possibly could see Bergman or Williams debut, or even Mead

Sutcliffe didn't replace Bonner, Burton did - Sutcliffe was Rocky's replacement

Georgiadis for Ebert, Dursma for Sutcliffe That would seem logical but with no SANFL form to go and Kenny's selection headscratchers it's hard to know. Ebert is a massive loss.

I want to see Georgiadis play. He impressed in round 1
