The NRL Round 16 teams have been revealed.
Melbourne will be buoyed by the returns of Cameron Smith, Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes to the line-up for their Sunday clash with Manly – but lose Brandon Smith to a broken jaw.
The Sea Eagles will move Reuben Garrick to the wing, Jack Gosiewski to centre and try Tevita Funa at fullback as they desperately search for a path back into the top eight.
Meanwhile, North Queensland have regained the services of Valentine Holmes for their clash with Cronulla and will start him on the wing.

Reason for resting a result of re-occurring and repetitive resurgence of real discomfort in the hamstring region…. nrl casualty ward.. (if they are reliable..)

I have been shy on Dearden but I have also been vocally disappointed on how he has been used. I truly don't want to keep sinking the slipper into Seibold BUT earlier in the season we had Turpin/Macca, Macca/Paix - Bully/Paix as hooker & utility option but Tom was thrown in as #14, knowing full well Milf/Croft weren't going to get hooked. Highly unfair and not his role - what did they expect? However, last week when he knew it was all on him - wow, happy to say I'm wrong. With that style I would put Bird at 6 next year. Agree about Morgs, IMO Clifford has that in him but seems to be hesitant for whatever reason. Morgs may have been better served coming back to center albeit an expensive one (his Souths game was good) Dunno, maybe a year or 2 in ISP against men may bring him along more.

Thought much the same when I read that. You guys must be very deep on your list by now, especially in the backs. I guess it's more about limiting damage now more than winning.

You are right of course. He has skill and a really good short kicking game. He needs to develop the temperament and the killer instinct. Can you learn these attributes? . I just don't know. My initial thoughts are nope they are innate but I am willing to give anyone a go. The Cows halves are a long term mess imo. We desperately need a 7, not another 6. Morgs just cant run an NRL side, but he is the best running 6, along with Wrighton in the game. I keep hoping on Clifford but am slowly losing faith . I have no idea where we get someone like your young Deardon who I really do believe will end up a great 7. A composed 7, with good decision making skills is a rare beast . I just don't see anyone like that in our system.

The season is over, why risk him at all. I guess get him ready for Origin is a good reason.

I read he was being rested.

I'm starting to see what Hannay is trying to do and TBH I think Drinkwater is a 6 as well. However, he's a confidence player and he's rattled. The best thing for him would be to go to ISP and tear it up. Since there is none, go one back to park footy and give him specific instructions and see if he can execute. Send a defensive coach back there with him. I think there's enough depth there bewteen Clifford, Asi, Holmes, Morgs and Hammer to allow for this. He's still young and could be anything but he needs to calm down and mature up.

Not for a year, then Madge then Barrett. Why you ask?? Well, Sharks look like signing Morris, so he'd safe for a little while. That's all the bottom 8 teams save Titans (Holbrook resigned and safe to '24), Tigers and Manly. Des is safe, not so Madge if the team doesn't respond to him and make 8 next year. If Barrett doesn't have Dogs humming like Penrith by '22 the reputation and disaster of Manly will come back to haunt him. He has an uphill battle. Tell you one thing, I doubt you'll see 5 coaches gone in a year again for a long, long time.

Based on those squads I expect the Storm v Manly game could get ugly.

If I was a betting man, and had to chose somebody, it would be Madge from the Tigers.

I saw the interview with Hannay. Its not a typo. He said long term he sees Drinkwater as a six. Hannay has ruled himself out of the job right there imo.

Nice to see O'Sullivan get a crack. At this point, Dearden is probably the broncos half most assured of a start. If O'Sullivan is a good foil, it's worth knowing that now. Their selection policy has to either be experimenting to find solutions to their problems (halves, the upcoming vacancy at fullback) or trying to escape the year with a victory or two to arrest the psychological or brand damage. The tigers and cowboys also need to get a read on where some players are at (form, age) in key positions.

Surely it must be a typo

Young has a 100% win rate so who are we to question his selections

I guess that confirmed the theory that a "stale" Mary had lost the playing group.

Funa to fullback for the Sea Eagles? I guess it gives him a chance to make up for last when where he had a really poor game. And has Morgan Boyle run over Dessies’s cat or something? He offers a bit of grit and mongrel which has been sorely lacking up Manly way. But not even a bench spot?
