Five local footy players that an AFL club would love to have right now

By Patrick Morrow / Roar Guru

I am back with a fresh article and in 2021 we can finally watch local footy.

I have watched all the local leagues closely and these are five players who I just think could cut it at an AFL level.

Brad and Jackson Robb: Avondale Heights
Identical twins Brad and Jackson Robb are just special footballers to watch. Last Saturday I had the pleasure of watching them running around and dominating the contest against Glenroy, with both showing why they are A-grade midfielders averaging 30 touches a game and a goal, what is not to like about these two? If you need any more evidence watch the highlights here to see more of their beautiful play. Look out for numbers 12 and 13 in the dark blue and white strip.

Lockie Rayner: East Keilor
The brother of Cameron Rayner is a jet and has been hugely influential for East Keilor, he is a lot taller than Cameron and mostly plays as a ruckman and half-forward. Boy, he is a quality player. I have seen him in the flesh and his ruck craft is great to watch plus his marking skills are great. You can go here to see more of the action this player can produce, but keep an eye on Brandon Coletta as well.

Nick O’Kearney: Keilor
A delisted St Kilda rookie, O’Kearney has applied his trade at Keilor and is currently a VFL player with Essendon and he has made a huge impression, averaging 30 touches and a goal at the premier division level. At the VFL level, averaging 20 touches a game not bad at all. You might be thinking the Saints would need him now and you could be be right, watch for number 11 on the highlights package to see why here is the number one midfielder in the EDFL.

Josh Toy: Aberfeldie
A former Gold Coast Suns player, he is a quality backman and his intercept game can’t be beaten, it is great to watch and could stand up in an AFL game. Toy averages five intercept a game and has a game-high of ten in a match. Watch these highlights of number 1 running around in the dark blue here.

Darcy Fritsch: Coldstream
The brother of Melbourne forward Bailey Fritsch has kicked over 50 goals in the season already in the Eastern Football League, I know it is in Division 4 but that is crazy and the fact he has not been picked up by a higher-level club club is just bonkers.

So, these are five players who could play at the highest level, comment below to tell me others that could make it at the elite level.

Aaron Black wasn't good enough for NM or Geelong's list, I think he only went west recently after being in Geelong's VFL team for a few years. Probably better to focus on the under 22's rather than point out 30yo's who have not made the grade at AFL level.

I have seen no convincing evidence that west Australia is a real place

That's fair I guess. I can only nominate WAFL guys as that's all I see and know. I'd have to let others speculate on SANFL, VFL etc players, as I wouldn't have a clue on them. (Jackson Ramsay was apparently delisted from an AFL side, and Aaron Black was delisted from NM's rookie list, and not sure if either played AFL?)
