VOTE: Wallabies player ratings vs France

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies won the game and the series on the weekend with a thrilling 33-30 win over France at Suncorp Stadium.

Like every other Test in the series, we’re giving you the opportunity to do the player ratings.

So, simply head down to the form below and give each player a score from one to ten. If you don’t think they were on the field long enough for you to make a judgement, that’s okay – you can just leave them blank and it won’t affect their average.

Here’s a rough guide to what each’s numerical score equates to.

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God John Eales have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a match of such importance.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Extraordinary. Calling them man of the match would be an insult.

So, get voting in the form below!

To be honest JOC in my opinion does less with the ball in hand to make time and space. He seems to just catch and pass, sometimes literally standing deep. The Wallabies and Australian rugby in general need to devise a way to beat the rush defense, the out the back plays are not working.

Hooper wouldn’t make the Reds squad.

It wouldn't be easy with a novice 5/8 who doesn't take the ball to the line. To'omua's test career must now be over. He should be looking at second division Japanese clubs like Cooper and Genia.

Noah missed one kick in 3 tests. Scored a try, set up the breaks for Hooper and Banks which resulted in tries. Twice kicked the wining penalty. What else do you want from him to earn his spot? JOC hasn’t played for weeks and has a groin injury that are notoriously difficult to get over. Noah is a lock for the first test. It’s 12 that’s the open position.

It’s the Swinton debate from last year. The wallabies react in a different way we lose by plenty. I’d suggest the points should go to the officials and IRB for the laws they put in place and the coaching staff and on field leaders for how they reacted.

Lack of depth in support. Too many players wanting the pass, neglecting to remember they can all run 5m in under a second and be better placed to support the ball player for all outcomes.

I’m not the biggest Hooper fan, but man, he is the captain, he was one of the best players of the series. I rate Pocock as a better “traditional” 7, but Hooper did his role rather well. And you want to drop the best young player in the land?

I can’t say I have seen HP use footwork to beat a defender. I’ll believe you that he does, but the only footwork I’ve seen is a stutter step to load up into contact.

Why is Hooper responsible for attacking turnovers? Its his fault when someone on the team drops the ball now!?!

If he was genuinely a 9, wouldn't we be winning a lot more tests? Been there a very long time and the results have been disappointing - but that's what happens when you start every test a man down in the forwards due to his 'roaming in the wider channels' game.

Thanks Peter. I stand corrected. Outside of Lockdown policies, have test matches been whistled by non neutrals in the professional era?

Where's the hype from Mcreight. Can't even tear up Super Rugby. Similar and slightly bigger than Hooper yet nowhere near Hooper's skill set, experience and Rugby IQ.

Well 12 is where the rubber most often meets the road in contact, with both backs and forward piling in, so 12 is a more frequent target for hits and strips, as we saw. What I like about Paisami is his all round attack skill. He doesn’t look like a hit up merchant, yet he is. And he also steps and kicks. Rennie has given him a licence to express skill. I am guessing it’s to build an attack template that keeps defences guessing. Different positional roles make different errors, eg defensive reads at 13, inaccurate pilfers in the backrow etc. Overall team error rates (and their resultant costs) matter more than individual spot errors.

Jimbo, you set yourself up as a big target here, and I don’t know where to start, so I’m going to start with - paragraphs? Then move on to - When have kiwi refs ever reffed ab games? Finally, your team is okay, but you could’ve picked more Qlders. PS. With so much opinion, I’m disappointed that you didn’t select a new coach.
